HD Radio

huh....turns out I DO have HD radio on my car stereo. I never really noticed it before stuck up in a tiny corner of the screen. I turned on True Oldies, 95.5 HD2 and it barely came in at all.
I take it that HD radio works on antenna strength just like the regular stuff does?

HD fallout from the ESPN move to FM:

98.7 HD-2 was HumDesi Radio. HumDesi has moved to 97.1 HD2 displacing myRXP. So RXP has died again.
98.7 HD-2 is now ESPN Deportes.

To the previous poster... yes; HD signal strength is definitely at play, and likely a big reason why HD radio isn't taking off (especially on the west coast where the terrain is a major problem).

Another reason HD isn't "taking off"... just go into ANY electronics retailer, and ask the sales staff about "HD Radio". They will most likely shrug, point you to XM/Sirrius, or both.

The HD Radio version of RXP was pretty pointless anyway. No personality, just a faily uncompelling mix of ordinary rock on shuffle. You're better off customizing your own mix on Pandora if you want automated radio, at least you get something tailored more to your own taste. The same is true for a lot of the offerings on HD Radio subchannels.

Doesn't this require an internet connection? If it does I have to ask, with Verizon as well as others limiting the amount of data one can stream for a set price in any month is it economically feasible to rely on streaming audio for your entertainment? Another point; my daughter has an I-phone (I have a 64Gig I-POD Touch) and she tells me that battery life is miserable. Sure you can spend hours devising ways to extend battery life but the average person won't jump through hoops to do so.

If you have WiFi at home, you can record live streams as much as you want, and then listen to whatever you record and play it in your car. I was recently at the Sony store at the Jersey Shore Premium Outlets, and their car stereos with HD radio, an AUX plug for your iPhone, iPod, etc,a USB port and a CD deck is going for under $150.

If you're using a cell network through your smartphone and a standard data plan, it takes about 4 hours of streaming per day, every day, to hit your 2GB per month. It's a very realistic option if you've got the connection in your car.

My 16 GB iPhone goes the whole day on a charge with pretty heavy usage... Constant e-mailing, app usage, audio streaming, etc. I've only ever had battery problems after a couple of years.
