HD Radios at Fry's

So, I've never heard HD Radio, so I went to Fry's where they have 3 different ones on sale.

All on display, first one turns on, but no sound whatsoever, second one is on, but no speakers hooked up. Third one actually turned on, after I found the plug. But, all I got was extremely loud buzz noise.

I asked one of the sales clones, he had no idea what HD radio was, nor offered any assistance.

Bummer, I would have bought one if they could have demo'd it correctly.

As opposed to the clueless, standoffish twits who sell other things at Fry's?

I heard a Circuit City spot for HD Radio; they didn't know much about it either, but had a decent display.

I'll give them a look.

At least Fry's doesn't chase you down and practically beg you to buy a warrantee, gift card, and magazine subscription like Best Buy. And returning stuff is easy.

If only Costco would carry HD Radio.

ccrane, com has them/ boston acoustics $300 shipping is included, so you save gas and you don't have to look at the salemen's pimples at frys etc

The Showcase Home Entertainment at 18th Street and Camelback was the best place I've found to demo HD Radio so far. They had the Polk I-Sonic set up and receiving a few HD-2's. This was a few months ago.

Your neighborhood Radio Shack may have one, but it depends store to store whether or not they have it plugged in and working or not. The Circuit City near me had a Boston Acoustics displayed hidden with the rest of the clock radios, but the steel building did not allow for much reception on their display model, analog or digital.

now now, don't be so hard on fry's. that's where kfyi got there morning "show" host, wrinkly shirt and all.

All of this doesn't bode well for the "savior" of terrestrial radio. I had a similar experience to 'Legand' not long ago. Funny though, when I actually was able to hear HD Radio, I had to sit through about an eight minute stop-set, same old terrestrial radio... but man, that Circuit City commercial sounds really good in HD.

Also, while I haven't priced them in the last couple months, but HD is kind of expensive. Of Course, you know, radio is "FREE"

Mosy of the salespeople are young 18-25. They could care less about Radio plus radio has done an awful job at promoting it. Not surprising giving who runs radio these days. Bean counters and computer geeks.

I was in Best Buy and I decided to ask the car radio salesteens did they have HD Radios. They said they didn't but pointed me to Crutchfield's website. I forgot to go to home audio to see if they had models for sale.

I wandered into Frys one rainy afternoon a while back and must have been the first one to play with the Boston Receptor HD they had (the white one). It sounded great in analog, but it wouldn't go into HD mode. When I went back last week I cruised through the aisle again, it was definitely worse for wear - the remote was missing and the speakers sounded like crap, no doubt from the mariachi music being pumped out of those little speakers at max knobbage (by the way, since when is listening to 100% distortion enjoyable? Maybe that's the best way to listen to mexican music - so loud and distorted you can't hear the music or the words, just the speaker cones deforming) Anyway, I'm sick of Frys... When I realized I had been overcharged by $10 for the network card I bought, I was informed by the circus midget with Popeye biceps that they don't price match their own website! When I do buy an HD receiver or tuner (like the Sangean unit) I'm buying online, probably J&R - screw Frys.

I went into Ultimate Electronics just to look around. I went to the auto dept and asked about HD Radios. The saleskid said they had "HD-Ready" Radios but couldn't show me a demo. He said that there aren't many stations that are broadcasting in HD.
