HD Radio's weak reception remains an issue.

Here are some snippets of Accurian HD radio reviews from the Radio Shack website. Predictably, the first one is from an HD Radio insider/cheerleader. I noticed that he really dwelled on the antenna connectors. WOW!

"By: Lee D., Baltimore,MD | 11/08/06 - I work in the techie side of radio and have worked with HD Radio from the start...the external FM F connector is easy to get to, hook up an external FM antenna WOW..Great. The connection for AM loop is also easy to access, add a Radio Shack tunable am loop for super reception and the radio really rocks on AM or the terk am/fm amplified 30Db table top antenna and this set really pulls staions in... add a inside FM amplified or outside AM/FM antennas for an extreme HD Radio reception experience..."

"By: Joe M., Santa Clara, CA | 11/07/06 - On the plus side: Very nice styling, ease of use, easy to read dial and graphics. Negative: Weak reception on AM and FM, with only a local FM providing a strong HD signal. No audio outputs, tone controls provide minimum range, 2" speakers provided low fidelity, slightly better fidelity on HD vs. Analog. You will need an outside antenna to "pull in" most HD stations, but with such low fidelity, why bother?"

"By: jon t., colorado | 11/04/06 - worse radio ever--terrible reception area and plenty of static--hd???"

The technology doesn't work for most buyers unless they are antenna-loving radio geeks.

HD Radio is still DOA.

I bought a tunable loop from 1924 ( outer loop tunable, inner loop angle-variable coupled) because I AM a radio geek.
This was 20 years ago. I can't believe I am reading anyone giving a hoot about such a matter in 2006.
Is this what HD has come to, we need tuned loose-couplers to give the modem enough signal? HA HA HA.
Sounds to me like this pig needs a tuned RF input stage. Can anyone tell us if any of the HD radios have a tuned RF stage, or if they just let any old signal walk into the mixer?
