HD Scores Another Auto Maker

An item in Radio Business Report states that Rolls-Royce will now be offering HD radios as standard equipment.

If there's any car buyer who would be less tolerant of anything less than perfection, it's someone who has spent northward of six figures for his ride. I hope the RR dealerships are well versed in how to handle warranty work.

Wow! Rolls-Royce finally catches up with Hyundai.

Wonder how many of those snooty upscale RR's they sell (where HD reception is actually possible)?

And for some reason I have trouble picturing anyone riding in a Rolls actually listening to any radio station.

You would think - after years of trying and probably big bucks spent - HD would be one of the MAJOR automakers. The fact it isn't is one more indication that the big automakers know the technology hasn't caught on with the public.

HD radio is a zombie - it is already dead, yet it keeps coming back from the grave to annoy us. Just a little Halloween imagery a month late ---

Score! Another HD Radio triumph for "the everyman!"

Hope the version of HD receiver installed in that new Silver Wraith waiting for YOU at your convenient nearby neigborhood Rolls dealership is "digital-defeatable." Otherwise Rolls service managers better brace for exasperated calls from the country club. ("Muffy says the radio keeps skipping like a bad CD! How is that possible, Reginald??")

Last I knew, Rolls had become a BMW product, so perhaps this isn't surprising, given Beamer's unqualified successes with HD. ::)

Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?

By the way, it sounds as if one of your tires may have suffered a puncture. I hear a nasty hiss.

Well, that's another 200 radios annually. What's worse is they are being sold to people who demand nothing less than perfection. If you spent that kind of money for a car, wouldn't you? The dealers will love it.

BTW, not all Rolls-Royce sales are made it the USA. Do they have HD in Hong Kong? That is where you will find a high percentage of these "proper motorcars."

Maybe if you sell HD radios in areas where there is no HD Radio broadcasting, it won't be a problem.

What a strategy. Boost the HD radio sales numbers without adding listeners.

Rolls-Royce sold 461 cars in North America (US, Canada and Mexico) in 2008. With the economy, I'd guess they might sell 300 cars with HD radios in the United States in 2010. Now, if Ibiquity can just sign up Maybach, they'll have radios in another 150 cars.

Whew...what a relief. Now I can finally rip the double-stick tape and the adhesive cable-tie standoffs off the matched burled oak and Connolly hides on top of my Silver Cloud's dashboard. That Directed Electronics aftermarket HD head just never looked right up there.

Forget the Grey Poupon. Might I borrow your Goo-Gone? :D

That way the stations can keep the HD2/3 channels commercial free! ::)
