Sounds like easy money to me. This is even better than giving them away. 11 bucks in my pocket per radio and maybe I can get some suckers to buy them for 10 bucks a piece making a grand total of 21 bucks per radio. Could be an easy $million$ in some other Galaxy.

The HD rebate program may be more portentous for IBOC's future than many casual observers may think.

We know HD Radios didn't sell at $249. Or $219, or $199, or $149, or $99.

If they can't GIVE away the radios we may finally know what the bottom-line perception of HD's value is by the general public. This program may entail some unanticipated risks for HD Radio.

Then again we'll never know the specific results from the rebate program, since iBiquity won't release real sales data (I probably wouldn't either if I were in their shoes.)

OMG this is better than Mastercard. They advertise "Priceless", this thread truly is.

I deleted a post I had written off line about how "some would say it's too cheap and loses it's value", and a focus group had determined that $34.05 was the "Official" price point. It was cute, but upon furthur review not all that funny. I hit delete and thought I'd see what came up.

YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!!

Literally MILLIONS of people "PAY" to vote for some boob on American Idol (And then get text spammed) But instead of Charging you a dollar EACH for 10 "votes", you get $50 in the mail... And that's low....

Meanwhile Beakman (or is it the rat?) sees a price of $39 including a $50 rebate and thinks he's going to make $11 a radio and then sell them as well. :) He thinks "$39 minus the $50 rebate means he gets $11.00" Please I'm begging you guys... STOP. :) :) :)

Did you go to the 7-11 school of mathematics?

True story. This evening I went to my local convienience store to buy 2 12 paks of Diet Pepsi. They're regularly 2 for $6.00 and each 12pak has a coupon on it promoting a 2 for $5.00 price at the register. Including Tax, I have $6.00 and the merch in my hand. ($5 plus tax). Store is busy, I'm 5th in line... When she gets to me she rings up the two items, and then rings up a coupon on each of the 12 paks. Register says $4.61. As I already had $6 in my hand, and as I gave it to her as I said, "Wait, That's can't be right..."

She says, "Well that's what it says... And you gave me too much money" as she gives me the Dollar somethig change.. I said, "but..." and the guy behind me pokes me in the ribs...

I stuffed the $1 in the MDA box on the counter and left. Shucks, she musta had one of them there Northeast Ed-ju-ca-shuns.

Sorry if I'm too mean... $89 - $50 = $39 minus....

Wait sorry... Out

Yes. It's an iLuv...But will we luv it?

$99, $89, or even $39 for a table top HD radio. Some wonder if the $250 radios work. That doesn't bode well for the low priced models.

Maybe someone on this board will get one & let us know.

What I'm reading on some of the broadcast engineering boards/remailers is that the Sony XDR-F1HD tuner (NOT "radio," as it's being advertised by some retailers, including Amazon) has outstanding performance in both analog and digital, although its analog AM audio bandwidth is lousy (but then, what analog AM radio or tuner doesn't have lousy audio bandwidth?). $100 before the rebate.

I've read that as welll, Dumber (about the Sony). In fact I came here to post just that fact, but you beat me to it!

50 bucks for a tuner that apparently measures better than some of the great "super-tuners" of the past (Carver TX-11a, Day Sequerra, not to mention classic Pioneers, Kenwoods, and Yamahas) is astounding. That it also receives HD is great, but hell...I'd buy the damn thing if it was analog only!

For AM, I've got several radios that sound better than I've heard a component tuner sound in years anyway (since, maybe, the Carver mentioned above)...from the Sony SRF-A100, to the Grundig S-350, to the GE SuperRadio III. Not to mention my Drake SW8! ALL sound better on AM than any component tuner I'm aware of (made today).

Do you think that I actually cared enough to more than glance at post? Nope, and anyone that would pay 39 bucks for an HD radio is nuts, the expensive ones hardly work, I can imagine how great an 89.00 radio would work. You get what you pay for unless of course it's an HD radio, then you get a lot less.

Thanks for again adding your two cents worth of nothing.

By your "logic" we should still be paying $700 for a basic 1985 style Cd player, those fifty dollar CD/progressive scan DVD players can't possibly be any good.

Great one beavis.

Well, I have one of the Sony's on order. Forget the rebate. For the price it appears to be an amazing radio. That has been the bright spot in the HD revolution. There are some great analog radios out there. If HD catches on, they do that as well. DSP brings a lot of interesting possibilities to the table.

Ahem..Actually I believe you just got owned again KB.

I must admit, my $119 Insignia car radio/CD-DVD player with HD works quite well. I've yet to have the FM-HD drop back to analog mode when driving around. The AM performance is so-so, and there is only one IBOC-AM station in the area. From what I've seen, the new inexpensive radios with the HD chip seem to perform better than the original expensive BA and certainly the Acurian.

My friend has one of the original JVC HD radios in his car, (he drank the HD Kool-aid big time), and my little Insignia seems to perform much better. I think Texas Instruments must have made some improvments in the ver 2.0 chips.

I drank the Kool-Aid too, and I can tell you, that for $100, it was worth it to be on the cutting edge of something, for a change.....

Not interested in being on the cutting edge of Blue-Ray, and I-phone, etc.....

But $100.... that's cool for me.....

Now go and spend $1000 on something you think is "worth" it..... :D

You're still out a grand !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
