HDTV in the NJ - Philadelphia Area

I just got my 1st HDTV and I'm very excited. I know what your thinking, what took me so long? For those of you who are HDTV pros I have a few questions. I went to Cablevision (my local cable company in Morris County, NJ) and got the HD Cable Box and now I get CBS HD, NBC HD, TNT HD, ESPN HD, ect. They seem to have great sports content (which as a big sports fan is awsome) but i'm surprized to see only 20 or so HD channels and such limited programming. WNBC 4 seems to be the only local HD newscast. 2,5,7 are not up to HD local news yet? With all these HD TVs being sold this Christmas season I would have thought the networks would be further along in the technology. I love all the HD sports and I see HBO, Starz, ect. all have HD movie channels. What about other HD cable networks? Is there more HD programming available over-the-air that Cablevision does not offer? Are HD singals stronger? If I hooked up an antenna would I pick up the Philadelphia stations as well as New York? Are other markets (Philly, Boston, DC) ahead of NYC locals as far as HD Programming, local news, ect. Is cable TV the best way to go on HDTV programming or is Verizon, Direc TV, Dish Net better? Thanks for the Help.

DISH Network has 30 HD Channels, plus locals - that's by far the best deal.

Over the air from the Morristown area you should be able to pick up WFMZ-DT and WBPH-DT, both from Allentown PA.

Philly channels may be do-able, but you're on the extreme fringe.
 
In Philly, Channel 6 is doing Action News in HD, in the studio and remotes. They also did the Thanksgiving Day parade in HD. Fox 29 just started doing news in HD. Right now, they're just HD in the studio. CSN Philly does home sports broadcasts in HD. Home games on CW57 are also in HD. Channel 12's HD channel is cool as well as INHD and Discovery HD channel.

I have HD packages both on Comcast and DirecTv. I'm watching the Patriots right now in HD on the NFL Sunday Ticket Superfan package. Comcast uses INHD and DirecTv uses an HD channel in the 90's to broadcast other sports progamming in HD that is on VS or NBA or NFL network.

In addition to broadcastcastin all the primary movie channels in HD, Comcast is starting to offer more HD programming on OnDemand.

Over the air, I get all the DT broadcasts in the Philly area. Most of the channels are carrying other subchannels in SD.
 
I am wondering if it is possible with the right antenna to pull in New York, Lancaster, and maybe Baltimore using the right antenna.
I am in Wyndmoor, which has some elevation, if that would help?

I know WPMT (FOX) has a strong signal out west. That maybe the closest out of market station you can get.
