HDTV Reception in Southington

My parents bought a 26 inch Vizio from Walmart a couple months ago. This past Sunday I finally remembered to bring an antenna to try out the HD, since they haven't subscribed to an HD service yet. (They're Getting HD programming from COX in late January). Here's what I was able to get with a $10 Phillips-Magnavox antenna I picked up at CVS.

3.1 WFSB
3.2 WSHM
3.3 Eyewitness News Now
3.4 CBS Fairfield County

Very weak analog signal of WTNH/8

A semi-decent analog signal of WUVN/18.

20.1 WTXX
20.2 Same as 20.1

A weak signal analog signal of CPTV/24

24.1 Black Screen
24.2 Black Screen
24.3 Black Screen
24.4 Black Screen

30.1 WVIT
30.2 NBC Weather Plus (Yep its still on the air)
30.3 Universal Sports TV

A Weak analog signal of WCTX/59

Very Weak almost unwatchable signal of WRDM-CA/50

61.1 WTIC-TV

It should be noted today 20.1 and 20.2 also just have black screens.

Did you notice the video and audio being way off from each other on WFSB-DT 3-4? I noticed that with an Insignia digital converter box attached to my Sanyo 26" LCD HDTV (for comparison purposes) Everything was fine on WFSB-DT 3-1.

No signal from WTNH-DT on 8-1 or WCTX-DT on 59-1/59-2?

As for WTXX-DT 20-1/20-2 and WEDH 24-1, the picture showed up fine on those stations for me in New Britain. Like you, 24-2/24-3/24-4 are blank here too, but obviously "on" for future use.

Hartford/New Haven is one of those markets just begging to be a test bed for SFN (Single Frequency Network) experimentation - rather than trying to cover a broad, terrain-challenged area with a single high-powered transmitter, it's possible in the digital world to use multiple lower-powered signals to get the job done.

Imagine if the Hartford stations all had transmitters up on West Rock to better serve New Haven, and if 8 and 59 had transmitters in Avon or Meriden to better serve Hartford, and if everyone had transmitters to get into those shadowed areas in Waterbury/Southington and maybe over into New London/Norwich, too - and then keep in mind that we're just at the beginning of the conversion process, really.

Yeah. Later on this evening 20.1 and 20.2 were back. And I finally got 24.1

I have a converter set up on the west side of Farmington and I have never been able to get a signal from WTNH-DT. (WTNH analog comes in fine). I have only been able to get WCTX-DT for about 10 seconds. (WCTX analog comes in fine)
