I'm looking at the Sony MDR-7506 phones to replace my old ones, I know they have a problem with the pad cover coming off. Any other recommendations in that price area of $100.00, or are those the best for the money?

I like Sennheiser HD-280s. You can also buy replacement pads from Beyerdynamic for your Sonys. Beyerdynamic DT-250 pads fit the 7506, and they are way more durable and WAY more comfortable...Or for about $150, you could just buy the Beyer DT-250...

They are great headphones! That's why you see them in so many studios. And yes, the edge of the pads will wear with time, but over all they are very rugged. I've been able to buy new pads for less than $10 a pair. Replacement is easy and generally doesn't need to be made more than once every couple of years.

I agree, those are my favorite phones. They just have the best sound that I've found. And the replacements pads aren't too bad price-wise.

I agree! I've been lusting after Beyers for a few years, and finally bought some six months ago. I spent over 20 years using Koss and was really upset when they stopped making my favorites. I Love the Beyers. Not too bassy, transparent midrange, crisp highs, and so comfortable I could wear them to bed ;-)
The Beyers sound like just what I need. I am probably going slightly deaf after doing this job for 36 years with phones on..I started using those crappy Brush Clevite phones with the bakalite earpieces..awful..Then I found the Koss Pro 4's (not the AAs just the pro 4's) They were great but had a terrible solder on the wire that connected the two phones..and that yucky cod-oil mixture that was inside the ear cusions..(remember that gooey crap Frank?)..they always fell apart in a year or two. I had liked the Less-Bass sound of the old Sony MD2's..and now I like the Sennheiser HD25..but those Beyers sound like just the ticket.
BTW..if you get tempted to spend a truckload of money on the Ultrasone headsets..save your cash. They're well built, but REAL bulky, and boomy.
But just like everything else it's all up to the user..everyone wants something different.

Jeff: We must be the same age. I used Brush at first, and LOVED the Pro 4
No problem with the cushions on the Beyers. They're a kind of velvet.
