Heads roll at CC GSO

The GSM was let go and other changes in the sales dept at CC in Greensboro. Other changes in Charlotte. CC wants revenue and they want it NOW!!! Can't squeeze blood from a turnip! Businesses just aren't spending. It's getting ugly.

Does this mean that sales at Flush Radio aren't going that well?

Is this just a rumor?

Don't know about CC, but at my place, if a big wig unexpectedly offers to take only you to lunch on a Friday, clean your desk out first.

Chaser, sounds like good advice anywhere you work nowadays!

I also have to ask. Why whenever a single personal change is made at a CC station is there always a post pointing to it like its a major shake up. For those of us actually in the business we understand there is a lot of pressure in this line of work (never more than right now) and sometimes people are going to be replaced to advance business forward. As someone who works on air I need a strong sales department or I make less money and could be out a job sooner than my ratings would dictate. I will also lose money on endorsements. On the flipside as someone who works on air, if I am not giving the sales staff something to sell, how can I be suprised when they cut me lose? The constant trashing on this board of anyone still employed really makes me wonder about the future of our business. We should be using a our time spent here helping each other get better. Then maybe one day this business will again recognize that well tenured and talented employees do in fact = revenue.

(for the record I DO NOT work for CC GSO, but that shouldn't matter anyway)

Let's look at the facts. On 12/31/09, CC flipped 106.1 in Raleigh to the talk format. On the same date, CC flipped 94.5 in Greensboro to the talk format. Both stations took the "Rush Radio" name and they have similar lineups. By the end of 2010, programming from 9am-6pm will be the same on both stations. Here is what has happened so far:

1) First AM host at 106.1 resigned after two (2) days on the J-O-B
2) CC-Raleigh GSM resigned before end of January
3) CC-Greensboro GSM fired before mid-February

These are not positive signs

makes you wonder why they even bother. The next "flavor of the month" will be on soon. Maybe if they actually invested something in these salespeople, or didn't have combined sales staffs, there would be something positive to report. But leave it to CC to not be able to make any money with the huge Hispanic population, and the dyed in the wool Conservatives of NC.

And yet . . . and yet . . . one of today's headlines is Clear Channel bankruptcy is no longer immenent. How can that be? Of course they are king of "cooking the books".

How does CC do it? Manager to make almost every member of the staff feel inferior and less than a lump of coal. Upper management must live in a ivory tower that is surrounded by dense fog so the CC honcho's have no idea what is going on at the market leve. When the head guys come to townd do they talk to anybody?

I think that's the problem. Head guys only talk to the managers. A smart company would get input from the worker bees. That's the only way to really find out what's going on and fix your product(s). Salespeople are out on the street getting input every day. You think any of that information ever makes it to upper level? Ha!

Upper management needs to show up when Kim is serving up some of those find cosmos! What a waste of great radio stations. However MM's have no real control over their stations so who can blame her if she drinks?
