Hear about the horrible Daytona crash?

It you didn't see it on ESPN or checked twitter or anywhere on the web, you wouldn't know about it if listening to 92 9 The Game. Amazing no mention at all in their 5pm sportscast, blast whatever they call it. Your new in the heart of NASCAR country and you don't report it? Live and local but clueless on breaking news.

But yet our NEWS stations have been airing live reports since it happened: Drew Nelson on All News and Doug Turnbull on WSB. Quite an embarrassment for The Game. I don't personally like NASCAR, but Atlantans care for more things than football and basketball, 92.9.

What do you expect! The Game 92.9 is a TERRIBLE sports station. They need to go back to a music format. Way to go Drew on 106.7!

Because of the transplant population being so large, Nascar does not due well in Atlanta. There is no radio coverage except for a couple of rimshot signals. The "spring" race is gone and they are having to advertise for folks to buy the fall race. IIRC 25% down financing of tickets! Nascar does well on TV, but if you look at a lot of broadcasts, there were a lot of empty seats at a lot of tracks last year. I use to watch and attend (both races at Martinsville) , but it got boring after Dale died. The cars looked the same until this year, and drivers are not "colorful" as in the past. Example, Jimmy Johnson (excellent professional driver and team) is about as interesting as watching paint dry.

Saturday afternoon UGA basketball was on,I agree that losing the spring race is one reason why none of the Atlanta stations have picked up Nascar. After the demise of Eagle,WNGC and South 107 picked up Nascar, but both have since drooped.

106.7 did cover it through ABC news,Fox 5 talked to a reporter from the Fox station in Tampa, and he talked about lawsuits, but it says on the ticket that when you go to a race, you do so at your own risk and you can not hold the track or the racing series liable.

I wouldn't know; I'm not a sports radio listener. What I did hear shortly after sign-on didn't impress me though. I removed the 92.9 preset the day after the flip. Sadly, that preset had been present on a receiver I bought new in 1991. It's now in its third tour of duty in my office and after 22 years 92.9 was removed on that unit.
