Heard on 1700

Listening to Ed Wallace on 1700 while driving from Garland (near KRLD's towers) to the White Rock Lake area approx 0810 to 0825 this morning, there was another station in the background that was at times almost as strong. It was a music station. Lady by Little River Band & Na Na Hey Hey by Steam were two songs they played. Heard some announcing but it was weak at that point & I couldn't tell what they were saying. Any ideas as to what station this might be ?

It was the World Famous KVNS 1700.
Even up here in McKinney KKLF always has KVNS audible under it.

KVNS is heard around the world,
in far away places such as Germany, and most of Europe.
All with its whopping nighttime power of 880 watts

KVNS and KKLF have been heard in Western Australia, over 10,000 miles away.

Thanks for all the responses.

Sounds like stations on 1700 skip like shortwave. But, 1700 was once part of the lowest shortwave band.

The signal shooting off the Gulf of Mexico probably has more to do with the distance it goes more than anything else.

Some of that can be seen in the coverage map on the link in reply # 1.
