Heard The Dixie Chicks For The First Time In A While On...

Drum roll please...Fuzion 100.1 FM Selma Alabama. This was once a Country station, with the Dixie name. When this station was Country, the Chicks were dropped from the playlist. Now that this station is doing the Variety/Classic Hits thing, it doesn't surprise me they would play their music again. The song I heard was Wide Open Spaces. Outside of this one instance, haven't heard their music on any other radio station, for a long time now.

WSM-AM still plays them, and they are classic country. I would think that they would fit in even less on non-country stations.

Case in point: a dj on an AC station played Fleetwood Mac's version of "Landslide" and referred to it as the definitive version of the song.

When I run across anything from them on the radio, I just look at them as another act that makes me change the station.

God bless you always!!! :) :) :)

To hear their music played on a Variety/Classic Hits station is mind boggling to me. ???  I was shocked after I tuned in and hear them sing.  I didn't expect anyone to play their music, in these parts, ever again but it looks like Fuzion may play them on a regular basis.  Nothing surprises me about this new radio station.  They are all over the map anyway and if they want to play Dixie Chicks, more power to them but I will change the dial, if I hear them sing again.  Their music and entire presentation has no appeal to me.

...and your views is based upon the natalie maines, anti bush political statement from several years ago? hows 'bout my buddy hank jr, doing his anti obama rant recently, and even calling obama a muslim? that okay, because it matches your politics better? sorry fella, the chicks got/had good country talent, regardless of my/our politics. my ears would take them any day over much of the popificated stuff that passes for country on big city slicker major market radio. if i quit listening to all the artists that didnt share my political views, i would lose some good stuff in my music library. goodbye bonnie raitt, goodbye jackson browne, goodbye CSN, goodbye earl......nope, i'll keep em playin', and agree to disagree.

how come your 100.1 FM done gave up country? the fusion, huh? yep, thats sounds like a real winner, not!

Read on their Facebook page they were going broke and had to do something.  Changing from Dixie Country to Fusion train wreck sure wasn't too bright anyway.  Trying to be a Montgomery Alabama radio station isn't working too well either.  Their signal plain sucks over in the Gump.  I will admit that the Chicks have great talent.  Modern Country just isn't my thing though.  Wish I knew the real reason why Dixie went Fuzion, in the first place.  This train wreck called a radio station, is a joke indeed.  Now some will come on here and say that Fuzion is the best thing to happen to the Montgomery/Selma radio market but my response to them is NOT!!!  I still detest this station period.  It's a real hoot to check out, when I need to get a laugh on.  I just don't see how anyone can mix these formats and call themselves a radio station: Country, Pop, Soul, Disco, Rock and even some current Top 40 tunes.  Whoever thought up of that idea, wasn't thinking straight anyway.

P.S. My own music library would be very small if I were to ditch every musician, I currently have, that didn't share in my own personal views.  It's indeed getting harder to find really good music to listen to.  This pop based Country isn't for me either.  It's lame and dull.  Would rather listen to the older songs anyway.  They had a real feeling to them.

B.T.W. Thanks for sharing you thoughts with me.  I appreciate it.

"Wide Open Spaces" seems like a curious choice for a variety/classic hits station. I would expect to hear "Landslide" or maybe their Record of the Year Grammy winner "Not Ready To Make Nice," although I have to tell you, I never heard that one on any radio station. Then again, I never heard the Alison Krauss/Robert Plant Grammy winner "Please Read The Letter" on any radio station either.

The Fuzion sounds like a variety/college alternative hybrid.

I can't speak for him, but I never liked the Chicks even BEFORE Natalie opened her big mouth, so let's not even go there.

You aren't ever going to hear that one on radio. Industry insiders (not the people, not you and me) made that one record of the year just to take a swipe at then-President Bush. That one is an instant button-pusher if it were to ever come on the radio. It was (very briefly) on the playlist of the AAA station here in Nashville, but I never heard it there, either. They DO play Plant/Krauss, but not sure if that particular title ever gets played there. They also have played the Courtyard Hounds, the Emily/Martie duo without Natalie. But that one isn't country, so doesn't really warrant a mention here.

That goes for me too.

P.S. My dislike for them goes all the way back to their song named "Sin Wagon" which came to light 3-4 years before the lead girl let her freedom of speech ruin things for the other two.

.....so you all hate natalie huh, then check out the dixie chicks album before natalie maines came on board. just plain old cow girl country from texas on a small label(kinda like a female version of riders in the sky). we used to play it back in the early 90's when i did work on college station playin' country/folk/bluegrass. yep, it was a trip when they later hit the big time with a new sound. whoda thunk it. damn, if i cant find the CD my music library...i know i got it

Most of the Cumulus country stations are playing 3 or 4 of their biggest hits again.

I saw that one in the Goodwill store a year or two ago. If I knew that you wanted it, I could have picked it up for you! ;D

Was checking out that same Fuzion 100 radio station, on today and heard Cowboy Take Me Away.

P.S. I understand the reason why this station is playing The Dixie Chicks again. Since switching to Variety Hits, they now can play whatever they want.

Ironically, the song actually charted #36 in the Billboard Country Airplay chart back in 2006. So obviously SOME country radio stations were playing it.

I don't think I have ever heard Not Ready To Make Nice on a country station either. I remember a TV station interviewing KHKI in Des Moines on the topic and simply refused to play it saying no one was interested in hearing it.

#36? Can you say "stiff"? ::)

Can you say "burning the hand that feeds them?"

I'm sure the stations that played it did so to get listener reaction. When they found it hadn't changed, they stopped playing it.

The AAA station here in Nashville had it on their (online) playlist for about a week, but I never heard it played there, either. They ran ads for their concert here back in '06, but that was about it. The DC's attempt at finding a new audience in a new genre apparently failed.
