Hearing the same game on multiple stations in your area

Living in Jackson, MS, I got a real treat during the recent Saints-Titans game on Monday Night Football. The three sports stations in the area all aired the game: WJDX 620, the Saints affiliate; WPBQ 1240, the Titans affiliate; and WSFZ 930, which airs Westwood One's coverage of MNF.

Kind of the same thing happening here in Columbus, Ohio. We now have a Bengals, Steelers and Browns affiliate. Kind of strange and useless, since I'm a Falcons fan!

This has happened quite a few time in my neck of the woods (Seattle-Tacoma), several times Washington plays Washington State in Football or Basketball. Washington's broadcast is carried on KJR 950, KMAS 1030 in Shelton, WA, and KGY 1240 in Olympia, WA. Plus Washington State's broadcast is carried on KPTK 1090 and KHHO 850. Kind of similar but several times when Washington or Washington State plays a football or basketball game I am able to pick up the other teams broadcast on one of my radios.

In New York 1050 ESPN is the flagship for Jets football. Because 1050 ESPN has signal problems in most NYC suburbs, 77 WABC simulcasts the Jets PxP (though not the pregame or postgame).

AM 930 is lucky it didn't get sued. Under the WW1 contract with the NFL, the WW1 broadcast cannot be carried in areas where the participating teams have a radio affiliate.

Wow, I didn't know about the Westwood One/NFL contract clause. Apparently, WSFZ isn't too concerned, as they did air the Titans-Broncos game on Monday night. The Saints do have a MNF game on December 10, so I'll definitely tune in to see if WSFZ plays it.
