Heather Moore on KPHO

Just noticed that tonight Heather Moore (formerly of Ch 3) was with Sean on the 5pm news. I always liked her at ch 3 and is a nice welcome addition to ch 5

Good pickup for KPHO. Moore has anchor experience. She was part of the 3TV employee purge a few years ago. She was working in San Diego.

I saw Heather last night, too! She did a good job and probably will take over when Catherine's contract is up. Also, it looks like Pat McReynolds is permanently on mornings. At least, he is in the latest commercials for the CBS5 Morning News (starting at 4:30am!! ;)).

I didn't know Catherine was leaving. In any case, Heather Moore is a good addition.

Channel 5 has so many people on that morning show set, it's starting to remind me of NBC's Football Night in America. ;D

Hey buddy:

Where do you get all your inside info on the scoop here in Phoenix Television land. You have plants or connections on the inside at all these stations? Come on share your secrets.

I too caught Heather Moore last night and again tonight anchoring, surprised to see her rise so fast in the ranks at KPHO.

I am surprised that you have info that she will be replacing Catherine. I have to say I have tried to watch KPHO but they seem way to slanted to the left and seem to just toot their own horn over and over again with their grammatically incorrect slogan "Telling it Like it is". For instance tonight they were complaining how they didn't get an interview with Gov. Brewer about what the latest thing she did that KPHO believed she has done wrong with her decision making skills. That station has gone downhill. They really lost it when they got rid of Diana Sullivan, Christina Wofford, Omadelle Nelson. Well luckily I can change the channel, we live a free country and we have options.

One other note, didn't this topic come up just a few months ago discussing how Heather was free-lancing at KPHO on the weekends or something along those lines.

Charlie.

Catherine was in Boston running the Boston Marathon. I don't think that the master plan was to get her to run a prestigious race in order to replace her on the desk. She was simply out of town. People jump to conclusions way to fast around here.

It was the poor wording of my post. I was just trying to make an observation, not a claim that Catherine is leaving! I have no inside knowledge, but Heather was really good. So, Catherine better stop running marathons... ;D (Again, this is only my OPINION!). Sorry for the confusion.

MusicFan, I must agree that they came across as "whiny" on the refusal of Jan Brewer to grant them an interview. My thought is that it could have been cast as "Brewer refused to comment to our reporter", rather than blathering on and on about it. If KPHO has evidence that Brewer is refusing to speak with them, then they need to come out with WHY this is happening. Did she object to earlier reporting by KPHO or what?

And, by the way, KPHO's current sports and weather teams are not terribly inspiring. They come across as pretty bland. Are they just trying to save money or something?

I caught a little bit of Heather Moore tonight. I don't know if being at a different station, being away in San Diego or what but she has really got her shit down. Man maybe it is just Channel 3 is light-hearted and goofy kinda attitude for their news team cause I know that Heather used to anchor the 8:00 PM Newscast. I think she is a great fit for Channel 5 and works well with Sean McLaughlin.

+1 That's why Catherine had better watch her back. I actually think that Heather might be better.

Sean just comes across as a whiny weasel to me anyways. I saw that interview. Now it just reinforces why I don't watch CBS 5 News. I thought he came across as quite juvenile and not professional.

I do like to tune into KPHO but Sean when not talking always seems to nervous of his next line coming up. Take a look at his body expression as the other anchor is reading their lines. I liked him as a weather guy but not so much as a news anchor.

I could not have said it better myself 2son and azenergyfan. He is very whiny and he always has that apprehensiveness about himself about what is coming up next. Sean just does not feel or seem comfortable in anchor role. He was a great Chief Meteorologist but sure sucks as an anchor. Maybe he should go back to weather.

Charlie.

Perhaps CBS5 needs to find a comfortable "A" team. Since 2004, the best team actually was Catherine and Diana together. Kent never truly fit in, despite his high salary and Valley appeal. As everyone has already mentioned, Sean looks and feels uncomfortable.

How about Heather and Catherine with Sean back as Chief Met and bring back Gary Cruz or Chambo for sports?

Sounds like the same problem that Royal Norman had during his brief weekend anchor stint at Channel 12 several years ago. He's just not news-anchor material, and seems far more comfortable doing weather.

Royal tried anchoring the news?!? He puts me to sleep when he does the weather. I can't imagine him anchoring the news. Isn't being a good sports or weather person enough? Why try to make them into main anchors?

After his stint in Atlanta, he returned to Phoenix as the weekend morning (IIRC) news anchor for Channel 12. This was 10 or 12 years ago. I think he only lasted about a year before returning to the KTVK weather staff. AFAIK, he hasn't done any anchoring there.

IIRC, he had been at Gannett's WXIA-TV in Atlanta, which could be how he got his gig at KPNX. It could have been just a "department transfer" within the company.

Some sports anchors HAVE transitioned to news, but that's far easier to do than to move from weather to news. Mark Curtis is one. Tony Segreto (now retired, WTVJ Miami) is another.

If you were a serious sports anchor, I guess it is easier to transition to news. Heck, Steve Pool (KOMO in Seattle) was a news reporter, news anchor, sports anchor, and finally settled as Chief Weather Anchor.

However, I don't see the funny/weird sports guy (think Kevin Hunt on KPNX) ever transitioning to news.

Or, think J.D. Windbag. ::)

Mike Chamberlain couldn't do it either. He was dull as paint as a news anchor.

If Sean did leave the anchor chair, he should also leave town. That would be weird, going from anchor to weather, even if it's Chief Met.
