Heeeeeeeere's Howard!

Reminiscent of the deal Johnny Carson got in his later years on "The Tonight Show," Howard Stern announced that "every other week," he would host three live shows per week instead of the customary four; this is part of his contract extension with SiriusXM.

He's also trying to detract fans that may not think he's giving it his all on his current show, saying on his program:

"I don't want to hear any nonsense about it because the option was either leave or work a few less days and I thought it would be better to stay on the air. Okay? Look, I know, listen, everyone would rather have the show every day five days a week. I figured it was better if we showed up three days a week, sometimes four days a week or whatever, be here for you, touch base and do a good show."

I've listened to Howard since he first started in the Boston market. I been a Sirius member since he moved over to satellite, but I finally dropped my subscription to Sirius last week when the three day work week was announced. Howard is talented and the show is still pretty good, but a three day work week is just taking advantage of the listeners. I work five days a week and a hell of a lot more hours then Howard does, I don't get the extended vacation time and I can't afford a vacation home in the Hamptons. The listener have given him a pretty good life and working four days a week is the least he can do to pay them back for that. If you listen to the guy talk, it appears that he really doesn't want to be there anymore but is just afraid to give it up. I just didn't want to support him anymore.

Allow me to add, if you remember when he first started at Sirius, he said the same thing about occasionally doing 5 day weeks. I believe that lasted TWO weeks.
I dropped my Sirius sub last year after Artie tried to kill himself. The show was bogged down and Howard started sounding like Imus with the "F" word. I tune in occasionally through a secret source to see if it gets any better, and it hasn't yet.

Howard simply is not the same, he used to have diffrent nutty guests on the show that made it funny, now it is simply kinda down right boring at times, he seems not into it at all. He was much better when he was not on satellite, and when Robin leaves, it is simply over. I enjoy listening to him and her chat about there personal lives, and pick on famous people, then when Howard has a guest on, simply doing boring interivews.

Well, I his loved the show so much that I purchased a 3 year subscription which ends this August. He was supposed to do a few 5 day shows when he came to sirius. I figured that would never happen. But it didn't bother me. I think howard has lost his humbleness. He has become one of the arrogant rich guys he always hassled. I think that is what drove Artie over the edge. Now he is saying he will do some 4 day shows with only having to do 3. So he will go to 3. I always admired him for standing up for the small guy, but I believe he has lost his humbleness and could care less for us subscribers. I hope he wakes up and remember the struggles he went through to get where he is at. We all can't become millionaire radio personalities, or it wouldn't pay millions if we all could do it. Oh well, after August sirius will lose another subscriber. I've followed Howard since he first started out, we are the same age so I know some of the struggles he went through due to the times we have lived in. Good luck Howard and there are still a bunch of us "regular fellers" out here. Enjoy your rich'es. Wonder what you would be like without money...hummm.

I gave up on Howard a long time ago. It seemed to me that after he moved to Sirius, it was a contest to see who could utter the most four letter words, guests included.

Today, I am a regular Imus listener. His guests are more interesting and informative, and the interviews are brief and current. It is entertaining as well as informative.

I honestly don't understand what people are whining about where Stern and Sirius are concerned.

I've listened to Howard since the WNBC days and think he is as funny now as he ever was...actually better. I hear them play these old shows and bits and many aren't as good as what you're getting NOW. Or maybe you liked hearing "God" do the weather...or Elegant Elliott Offen screaming in the studio? Stern's commentary and comic timing is incredible and I often don't even want to hear guests, as they sometimes take away from the show more than they give.

Also, Stern doesn't "owe" the listeners anything. He was paid for the work he's done and the listeners got to listen for many years. He could easily just walk away and be quite comfortable for the rest of his life. I'm glad he doesn't do that, because he's one of the only people worth listening to on radio, satellite or internet.

If he wants to do one or two days a week, I'll still subscribe. When he stops altogether, I will call quits on my Sirius sub.
