Heidi Harris On KDWN

Former KXNT talk host Heidi Harris is now on KDWN. I'm not sure what time it starts yet, but it ends at 10AM.

This is a good move for K-DAWN to put on a daily local show, especially a host that is known by LV talk listeners.

I found out her show is on from 8A-10A

Heidi started her talk radio career at KDWN in 1998 before joining KXNT a year latter.

When a caller tried to talk about immigration, Heidi informed him that "K-DAWN is no longer the all anti-immigration all the time station"..

Heard some of the show today. Is that how she sounded by herself back in the day? Not all that good. Also, I've never heard of a show in a timeslot like that. Seems the station is a little desperate to get something going. 1280 actually seems to have their sh*t together as of late.

Seems amazing to me that they would eliminate the 8am to 9am hour of the news block for this show...to me, that would be the most crucial hour of a news / talk station and the optimum time to update people on news / weather / traffic as they drive into work.

However, I guess nothing Beasley does surprises me anymore....that is perhaps the most f'd up cluster this market has ever seen.

Speaking of mistakes....I hope that loop they have playing on KBET is not a tease for the format they are planning....if so, it could be the biggest train wreck of a format ever....anybody have a clue what their plans actually are for this weak signal?

If what I heard this morning is Beasley's hope for K-Yawn God help them.. Here's something to think about... A year ago KDWN's overhead was probably what??? 10G a month.. TOPS? They had a .8 share.

Now here we are today, I'll bet the overhead is somewhere around 60G a month on salaries alone and what do they have? A .8!!

Bring back Claire, Tru, Pete, Jim and Hart at least there was some thing to laugh about with the old KDWN.

Absolutely on the money with your comments,They can keep Savage but with all they spent on their news op they could have kept what passes for LVs heritage station and added producers and screeners and kept same staff from the Plaza. Wake UP America is sorely missed with illegal immigration now a hot button issue in most of US. 8-10am most unusual time slot. Bring back the old KDWN or at least bring back Coast to Coast with George And Art. Beasley must be having fun with the debt service on that 20 million plus loan

The rumor about 790 is that Beasley will upgrade to 5kw day and then launch the station with the real format.

That "Loop" on KBET is just a multi disk CD player, keeping something going until they can do what they really plan for the station. Actually some foks like it for a whilte until they tire of Abba!

They used to change the CD everyday and rotate about 5 of them. Some had new age music, and the sounds of seaguls and ocean waves. For the past couple of weeks they play the same CD over and over, the one with lot's of ABBA and Oak Ridge Boys songs..what a combination!

actually the old kdumb had better breaking news coverage.....people would call the talk line and say "why do the police have the strip blocked off? then some off duty cop would call and say "there is a jumper on such and such a building...etc." ....Now some dip is listening to the police radio and never gets the story....low overhead, informercial revenue, and local programming verses unknown syndicrap...Harris promos try to be sexy...that's like putting racing tires on a model T

Only in LV (and I'm guessing only among a few KDWN diehards) would random calls to a talk show be considered a better way to cover news than actual reporters.

Now, there is a debatable point over whether Beasley would have been better off spending money on talk hosts (different talk hosts, not the same old the-illegals-are-coming crowd) versus a news operation, or even dumping talk altogether.

Re: KDWN "real reporters?" yeah sure ..dog crap on the freeway

if they are real reporters...why do they do chamber of commerce and newspaper rehash stories...they get to work...look at the RJ ..turn on the police radio and that is it....What major news story have they broke? they have never done an investigative story....look at this car falling off the DI overpass story...they could have got the license plate of the car that caused the accident and run it through the dmv or a car dealer....instead they wait for metro to tell them something...you can bet the guy driving that car was stopped many times by metro...but kdud won't step on any toes or take any chances...do they have any contacts -people who will leak a story? they remind me of kcbs in SF .."news is a bore on 74"

There are fewer and fewer TV stations... with much greater resources allocated to news departments.. doing investigative stories nowadays. Contacts come with time, and it's just been a year or so since KDWN's news department reopened after a 15-year or so coma. Even if they don't break an investigative story, it's still useful to have a station covering spot news and keeping commuters (who don't have TVs or the internet in their cars) plugged in when there's a major fire, shooting or traffic snarl.

KCBS in San Francisco has been a top news station for years. If KDWN reminds you of them, they're already in good company.

Again, what is it about LV (or certain people in LV) that fuels this snarling "dog crap on the freeway" hostility toward something that's expected of heritage news-talkers in other cities its size -- regular coverage of breaking news?
