Helen Wagner, RIP

I chose this board rather than Classic TV since ATWT is still on...

As the World Turns original cast member Helen Wagner has died at 91.

...and other sources as well.

"...and I thought about it, and I gave it a great deal of thought, Grandpa."
(Then of course, all hell broke loose on network TV.)

Sad that she won't have the chance to say the final words in the final scene when ATWT goes away this September (as she spoke the first words in the first ep in 1956). Her record for longest-tenured actor in the same role should stand for a while (if not forever).

This link contains several clips of Helen from ATWT (including the much-talked-about CBS News bulletin ep from 1963 and a recent ep with a Julianne Moore appearance), a 4-part interview from the Archive of American Television, and the 2004 Daytime Emmys where she was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award: http://www.welovesoaps.net/2010/05/classic-clips-helen-wagner.html

Also, Wagner appeared on the 1994 special 50 Years of Soaps, starting with this clip intro including a few from her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joBRTuuxRRs
Then, Wagner is introduced on stage with another daytime matriarch, Frances Reid (who now, sadly, precedes Wagner by a few months in death): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBhy3j5CyU4

1918-2010 .... Oakdale won't be the same without you, Helen.

Katie did an obit on Helen Wagner at the end of Monday night's
CBS Evening News, which included a short clip of her scene with
Grandpa interrupted by Cronkite during the 11/22/63 ATWT episode.

It seems though they didn't "give it a great deal of thought" as the
footage looked pretty bad--worse than the multi-part historical
record from the CBS archives on YouTube.

While I hope they give Nancy an on-air funeral/remembrance, it would be nice if somehow Nancy could say the final words on ATWT.

I went online to CBS News and watched. It was nice of Evening News to mention her passing.

You were a wonderful actress Helen Wagner. R.I.P.

I heard about it Monday night from the general manager
of WFMY, who's in a class I'm taking. Apparently CBS
passed the word to its affiliates. I was shocked; I didn't
know anything was wrong with Ms. Wagner (but then I'm
not a regular "ATWT" viewer). I also wish she could have
been there for the last episode.

BTW, my classmate didn't know anything about a potential
Julie Chen talk show to replace "ATWT" but I don't think
she was too surprised that the idea has even been mentioned,
knowing that Ms. Chen is married to the president of CBS.
