Greetings everyone, this is Magoo, Program Director for KBTE 104.9 The Beat in Lubbock, Texas. Just wanted to post on here, if anyone has any questions, thoughts or comments, you can always reach out to me, I love answering e-mail ([email protected]), I use the heck out of AOL IM all day: KBTEMagoo I just want it to be known, no matter how much we get bashed (I've actually seen some good things lately!) and what not, we've always thought it was the best approach to not reply to anything. I will now however answer back on "opinions", but I'm leaving the GOSSIP for those that like doing that. As far as bad mouthing anyone, I will refrain from doing that was well, because like the old saying goes "don't do anything you wouldn't want done unto yourself". I'll stick with that. For those of you that support what we do at the BEAT, THANK YOU, to those of you that don't support us, THANK YOU AS WELL! Even negative statements can be made a positive, it's just the point of view you take on it... On that note, I'm going to get back to work, seeing that I've been here already for a couple of hours and have a long day ahead of me!!! Like I said, feel free to reach out to me, I'm always on line, at least my 2-way is always logged on to AOL IM...

Your range to the East is great! I had you almost to Seymour.

Ok, sure no problem, I'll throw something out...
I think you should mainstream the Beat, just a little.
That's my only opinion on this.

I get what you're saying about "MAINSTREAMING" the Beat, but techinically we have "mainstreamed" the Beat in a sense, playing acts like BLACK EYED PEAS and what not... I'm not trying to be "POP". The funny thing about everyone's postings on here is that they say I'm playing "local talent". People like TEAIRRA MARIE, PITBULL, NB RIDAZ, BOBBY VALENTINO, those are the artists I think some of you are considering local. The thing about it, check http://www.randr.com those people are HIGH UP on the charts... What artists would you consider mainstream and what artists???

You mean "whiten" it up a little?.... HELL NO!!! That's what you have Z102 for.

Perhaps...

HELL NO!!! That's

Well, a couple of things...

Z102 is BORING! Everything sound canned. No rotation of elements, but I've ranted about this already.
It's not the playlist at Z102, so much as it is the presentation.
I think KBTE can do a better job.
At the same time, I'm not saying that KBTE should go soft or anything, but just a bit more mass appeal. Leave out all the soft vocal gum like Kelly Clarkson (spell?), but why not play more Fresh Prince? At the same time, I'd love to listen to KBTE more, but there's just sooo much Heavy RAP. It all sounds like the same kind of music over and over again.

As for the "whiten up" remark, don't take this the wrong way, but I think that is an unfair (and insensitive) thing to say. Why does Rhythemic music have to be only for one group of people. So if I don't like Z102, but think the Beat sounds too Urban (and by the way, I thought the official format was CHR Rhythemic), who do I listen to? That doesn't sound fair.

I'd like to see a station take all the heavyiest music, both Rock and Rap (something like WFLZ in Tampa used to do). Something like that would shock the system, it's just what this market needs.

But that's just my opinion, that's all, what do I know.

I just mean acts that are established.80% Rhythemic with 20% pop crossover
Groups like:
Black Eyed Peas
Will Smith
Gwen Stepahni
Nelly
Eminem
And they should get more rotation.

Once in a while there shoujld be some gold mixed in.
I think most of the more abstarct stuff should not be played until after 8pm.
Z102 sticks completely with the charts, no wiggle room whatsoever. So there's a whole lot of music that was current up to a few years ago, and nobody plays it (unless I listen to the mostly unlistenable Stars104-3, and that just makes me feel old).

Again, IMHO.

Garrett, that was nothing personal, but man remember MC Hammer? Nevermind...

Anyway, Magoo, dog, before you sell out like that, flip that bad boy to hurban. Now, that's all I'm going to say, because Safford is my boy and I don't want to say what I really want to say, and get my post deleted.

Ha ha, no prob!
But that was MC Hammer's fault!

You know, it's not a bad idea!
But if he goes Hurban, than some other station (perhaps Z102) will reposition themselves into KBTE's old format. So that's a problem. And KBTE is doing well, so why switch anyway.

Switch!
As Will Smith says.
Ha, I kill me!

...Thanks, I'm here all day folks.

I have a lot of respect for Magoo and now some of you know why. He could have come out swinging among other things but he handled himself well compared to some PD's I've seen in the past. (Nothing in regards to this board) Very professional, Magoo! Keep up the great work!

Good station but as I understand it swift changes are still forthcoming to the NextMedia stations. How it will affect personnel is yet to be seen....but the old is going out and the new is coming in. I would say it is going to be every man for himself...So, what do you think of this, Mr. DeLeon?
>

Change comes and change goes... That's the reality of life. I try to make things work for whoever works at the station. I said something a while back that made people look at me different. We had a meeting where everyone that works in the building was here and everyone was saying we are a "TEAM". I said no, I'd rather call everyone a "family". A team you can get traded away from... A family, even if you get mad at someone, you're stuck with that person being a family member. Words to live by. If big changes are coming to NextMedia, I, for one, have not heard of them and two, near the end of this year we won't be under NextMedia's umbrella...

Those are my .2 cents....
