I'm ever curious of when or how will Mobile Radio will make some changes. Or do they need to? Some people would agree , some pople would not give cause life in South Alabama = WHO COULD CARE LESS ABOUT ANYTHING! I know we had a post on this topic before....but concerning with some radio stations...they obviously don't care about ANYTHING!. Yeh, I know..I'm not the main listener that listen to the radio..or am I?

If I was the leader of "making changes" of Mobile Radio, I would make the following:

1. 93 BLX- Put Steve Harvey in The Morning slots! Get more Mixer D.J's and play more MIX SHOWS on the weekeneds!

question: What are y'all station again? Top 40, "HIP-HOP", or Urban? Culmulus...what are you guys doing? WDLT vs. WBLX..is this real? Basically, from what I hear...the format chages every day! Chose one and stay wit it! . This station is in medium to hot water.

2. WABB- BAD..and I mean BAD IMAGING VOICE! Professional? HELL NO! I liked the one before and that's sad!! Please sound like things are going somewhere! The D.J i like is Scotty. Morning show is bland, way bland! Q-Tip is great though!

question: What is ti status of the running of the station? Whose running it? Where out thall PD?..Oh yeah..stop playing the same DAMN songs over and over... over and over and over and over and over!! I know...how annoying!

3. 106.5 the Pirate?

Arrrr...this station is good (music selection)......Arr.....bad programming!

And lastly....How NEW is Kicks 104?

Sorry to be very negative....but let's clean up the Mobile/Gulf Coast Radio.... those metioned above! Who cares about Clear Channel. I listen to them more than ever these days and people said they make the horrible decisions! WYCL is good and so is Lite Mix!

Everyone on every board bashes Clear Channel, but in Mobile (and Pensacola due to tower locations), Clear Channel has the best sounding stations. On top of that, all of their stations are 100kw covering both markets clearly with spillover into Biloxi and Fort Walton, no other group can claim that.
Sure, The Pirate and Zew have great music, but the signals are too weak. How many people can listen to them at home and at work?... and they have no coverage of the beaches.

you may be a little behind....i know 92 zew covers the beaches now (they upgraded their tower) - i was down there in april (former employee) and had it tuned in all the way from west beach through to lulus and even towards pensacola...

i used to work for oldies 106 as well and listened to the pirate some...but not as much as the zew.

(back when they were both baldwin broadcasting...99-2000 time frame)

I was so happy when the Pirate came on...not so now. The music and formating sucks...why?
The owner is the morning man's daddy....thus shawn gets to do what he wants. here is where that fails;

1) Shawn thinks the masses want to hear the AAA crap he used to play at the zoo. Grow up kid, nobody buys college radio.
Rule number one...PLAY WHAT THE MASS AUDIENCE AND PRIME DEMO WANTS...NOT WHAT YOU PERSONALLY LIKE!...if you want to hear music you like, buy a jukebox.

2) I hate to say it kid, but you suck as a morning jock and the girl who works with you is one of the worst I have ever heard, in ANY size market (And I spent most of my career in top 10 markets on top rated stations). You are a solid tuneout factor. Face up to the fact that YOU WILL NOT GET RATINGS...move on to sales or programming and get someone who can communicate with the audience.
If you want mornings to work, do one of the following:
a) Buy a top radio syndicated show...or...
b) hire someone who is really good, and then limit comedy and play a lot of good music.
c) PLAY THE FRIGGIN HITS! holy god man, you have a 30 year history of great music to choose from, so why are you playing this AAA and college crap. if it was never top charted...DON'T PLAY IT. It does not matter if you thought it was "a great tune" (god knows how many times I have heard that excuse), if it has not been proven by a large audience, don't play it.

get on the net and listen to top rated classics in top markets...beatles, stones, hendrix, good god there is a massive amount of music you CAN PLAY that was huge when it came out...and THE ROCKET DOES NOT PLAY ANYTHING BUT THE SAME OLD CRAP OVER AND OVER AGAIN....chip is anoying as hell..JB&B is the ONLY thing they have going for them.....they are asking to have there ass kicked.

Does the Pirate do anything good? YES....charlie ocean is one of the most under-rated pm drive jocks around. I never have understood why he has stayed in Mobile all these years. he should be in a top 5 market doing pm drive. when he is mellow, he cannot be beaten....listen TO CHARLIE...SEE HOW HE COMMUNICATES WITH THE AUDIENCE (INSTEAD OF TALKING AT THEM LIKE SHAWN DOES)

o.k...I just gave you what I would charge a medium market station $50,000 to hear....so what are you going to do with it?
