Hello everyone.

Hello.

I am a FM broadcast band fanatic with a deep fascination with the classic hits and classic rock radio formats. My fasciation doesn't just end in the music, I also a syndicated radio show junkie, who takes collecting shows like AT40 (all decades) to an extreme.

I do some FM DXing sometimes but FM translators and LPFMs make me butthurt, so there's that.

Welcome, what‘s the farthest FM station you’ve Dxed?
I'm not sure. The most notable one, but not necessarily the longest was CFLT-FM Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada coming in Minneapolis-St. Paul area. That was buried under a local translator of a moderate signal (50-60 dBu). I have received some stations like WPOZ Orlando along with other stations in Florida and Texas in the same location before.

Honestly, my favorite kind of FM DX is not really DX and involves receiving stations under normal conditions or a bit of tropo enhancement on an relatively empty frequency or band, in rural areas. I like the idea of picking up several stations from several surrounding yet distant markets.

My farthest is 1550 miles.. NW PA to Montana.

Also heard a 250 watt Rapid city SD translator in PA

And in sE WY, i heard a 100 watt LPFM near sacramento and a 250 watt stockton, CA translator

Welcome aboard. I like FM DXing too, although e-skip season is still a few months away. I'm close to the NYC stations so it's not easy to FM DX with all those strong signals, but doable.

I used to listen to AT40 on WPLJ Sunday mornings. For a few years, I would flip between that and Casey's Top 40 on Z100. I occasionally listened to Rick Dees' Weekly Top 40. I think Z100 aired it for a few years, then it moved to WPLJ. In both cases, it aired Saturdays 5-9am which was too early for me.

@SomeRadioGuy At 1,550 miles, would that be considered a double-hop e-skip?

@MichaelD1972 WHTZ was among the first set of stations that aired the Weekly Top 40 in October 1983. Some misc. info: Mix 105 WMXV (now WWPR) played Casey's Hot 20 (CT40 HAC spinoff) circa 1995. WEBE 108 Westport aired Casey's Countdown (CT40 AC spinoff) circa 1997.

dont know

I have an oddly specific question I would like some answers for...

What are some places in the Top 150 markets within about 10 miles from the core market cities in the mainland United States that doesn't have many local stations, IBOC and translators with the most potential for out of market reception?
