Hello from Minden..Did KWKH ever play oldies?

Bill and I rolled into Shreveport passing right through Minden on Hwy 80 yesterday, and had to turn around and go back to Minden to deliver this thing to a fellow who lives in Minden not Shreveport and the company is making Bill and I pony up for the diesel fuel because they gave us wrong directions. Anyways we stayed here at the Minden Motel because they had room and all. So here we are, but did KWKH radio station ever play oldies? Bill and I heard them a long way out from Shreveport. I put my GE Superradio up agains the windshield and we got them good. man alive they have a strong sound all right, and if they played music I'll bet they would be loud. Why does this area have so many loud stations? Bill wants to go to the casino and play slot machines, but there's no steak places there. Just buffets. I don't care much for those. A guy at the travel center told me about a good chicken place, but sometimes those are real greasy.

Our dispatcher guy in California is making us rent another car and go to Longview, Texas to pick up a load of damaged lawnmowers on a trailer. They were on an overturned freuhauf trailer that caught fire, and the insurance company is paying us to get them and bring them to Yuma. So we will have to pick up a truck. Not a car. Bill likes chicken. Oldies are our favorite. We found a oldies station on FM though. Now we get to go back to Arizona again. Man it is HOT here today too. 95.7 is okay but they play a lot of crud. Hey where is a good steak place? I want a steak tomorrow, then we leave to go to Longview. You have a very nice town here.

thank you

Howard

As far as I know no... they have been a country music outlet for most of it's past 40 years (As of late 1980s and 1990s as the radio ranch playing current country) except for a brief detour as the ESPN affliate around 2000 before going back as a Classic Country station with sports coverage (basically they are the affliate of the local Baseball and Hockey teams as well as flagships of Saints and LSU) (KWKH 1130AM)

There was a KWKH FM if I remember that became a top 40 outlet KRUF 94.5

KWKH AM has always been Classic Country except for that brief stint as "The Fan" airing Fox Sports programming.

Here's one for you....In the 70's & early 80's KWKH FM was acctually top 40 KROK...Then in the mid-80's Great Empire broadcasting returned them to Country as KWKH FM....I never really liked them...To much crap & clutter on that station.

In 1996 KWKH was flipped to Top 40 again as KRUF back then "The Big Dog 94.5". I gotta be honest, I liked 94.5 when it was the Big Dog, before Crap Channel got a hold of it. It was always fun to listen to, now there's too much CRAP on 94-5 and outside of the gal in the mornings, the DJ's aren't that great.

Knock it off Erin! ;)

The old KVKI-AM 1550 (the original home of KOKA) ran ABC oldies back in the late 80's...before they went dark.
BTW Anyone know why 1550 went dark?

If my memory serves me correctly, the condition of the signal had gotten really bad. I think it went dark way before KVKI was bought by Bill Fry...No sales support, weak signal, so the turned it off. I could be wrong, but that's the way I remember it being told.

Kind of a shame, but I remember 1550's siginal being very weak. I think it had 5-or-10K daytimes, but you couldnt get 1550 further past the Texas/Louisiana border on I-20.

And I remember that KVKI-AM was contemporary christian for about a year (1989-90), and later it just simulcast with the FM until they pulled the plug... whoever owned it then should have tried selling it off instead of letting it go dark.
