Hello, everyone! Name here is Joe and am located in north suburban Chicago. Been a lurker on this group for a couple of years and now I'm glad to finally be part of the group. I started DXing the AM broadcast band when I was a young kid in the late 60s with our family’s old Airline AM table radio. I was fascinated by being able to hear stations from much of the U.S. at night. I collected QSLs back then and had a thick stack of them. I got my ham license at age 12 and also got into SWLing.
Am now recently retired and have started tuning around the AM band again. I’m not a serious DXer; I don’t even keep a log. I just like to tune the band and see what comes in on any given night (or day). Currently my receivers include a Kenwood R-600 (for ease of use) and Icom R-75 (with many tools for DXing). As my forum name implies, I also have an old Collins R-388 but it’s not presently in use. Maybe I’ll set it up for the upcoming autumn and winter AM DX season.
I’ve never been in the broadcasting business, but am impressed by the vast knowledge and experience that many members of this group possess. I’m also always interested in learning more about AM broadcast transmitters and antennas. I look forward to adding my 2 cents’ worth to the discussions here from time to time.
