Hello from the Land of Sky Blue Waters

Hello from Minnesota! From the Land of sky blue waters (waters)
(if you don't get the joke youtube it)

I'm Mr Tony and I go by that because...well everyone at my job calls me that (I'll get to that in a bit). I've never been in radio (been on radio a few times). I did work in TV....well it was the local (suburb of Minneapolis) public access channel. We did have a show called "Country Vidclips" that I helped produce, run camera, edit and even appear on (usually as a "extra" for a bit between videos). We were on a fair amount of public access channels in the metro area (it was always fun to copy the shows on 3/4" tape for Minneapolis). Ran from 1992-1996 then after I left they hit the big time and was on KXLI 41 (it was an Independent at the time) for a year until it switched to Pax (now Ion). Also ran cameras for city council meetings and during the winter ran the camera for the high school boys basketball team (I was in HS at the time).

Anywho fast forward 30 years now I am a head custodian at an elementary school in Mankato and all the kids and most teachers call me "Mr Tony" so that's what I go by :) I did go by a different name when I started here 10 years ago but changed it a coupe years ago because...well if you look at the end of my posts you'll see my former name...

Always fascinated with DX'ing back when I was a kid when during the summer it seemed like we'd get KEYC Mankato (which was 70 miles away) on Saturday mornings. Now I get KEYC all the time being in Mankato :) In the early/mid 90s I worked for Radio Shack so was able to get some good deals. I remember buying a car antenna booster so I could get KXLP Mankato (which was classic rock but had a great playlist) in my Firebird.
When I bought a townhouse in 02 (still in suburban Minneapolis) I loved to sit on my roof at night, spin the huge antenna manually and see what I could get. I had a antenna that was fixed on Minneapolis but the big one was for DX'ing. Even bought a Antennacraft Y10-7-13 VHF only antenna for KEYC at the time (72 miles away). The reason was the small town news, the Vikings held training came there so KEYC had most of their newscasts for that and a show that still keeps going 62 years later. Bandwagon (its a polka/old tyme type show...again youtube KEYC Bandwagon)
Also had an insane KU Band dish setup for all those news feeds, sports feeds and stations. I had at one point something like 7 KU dishes and 2 C-Band dishes set up. One C-Band dish (6 footer) I would roll out of my garage to pick up hockey from Alaska :D Yes I was nuts

One of my favorite stories was I was on my roof setting up a dish to get Hispasat which was the big satellite that had stuff from Cuba (this was during Fidel's reign). My neighbor walks out on his deck and sees me. He says "what you trying to get now???? Russia?" I said "Nope....Cuba. I already can get Russia" :)

Still love to DX but can't do much now as I am in an apartment. My favorite DX episode was when I was at my dad's lake house on Lake Mille Lacs (If you don't know where it is google Minnesota. Its the big blue blob in the middle of the state) around labor day and it was HUMID. This was about 6 years ago. If I recall in 90 minutes during the day I picked up something close to 50 stations from out the area that I normally wouldn't get. Was picking up Wausau, Eau Claire, LaCrosse, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Rochester MN, Sioux City, Green Bay, Des Moines, Grand Rapids Michigan, Duluth, Minneapolis (although in the summer its pretty easy even though its 93 miles away) and Fargo. I was in heaven watching shows and commercials from those "far off" places ;)

So that's me in a nutshell.
