Hello Houston from Harley Colt

Hey, Harley!

Enjoy Taos...John Driscoll and I buzzed down there when we were working together in Denver!

So let's do a quick accounting here:

Chuck Tiller and I worked together at KNUZ...
Kevin Charles, Col St James and I worked together at KLDE...
Harley, Jumpin' Joe and I at 93Q...

I am betting that there are others lurking that I have bumped into at one time or another.

Anyway, do me one favor, Harley...PLEASE promise me you have retired that "Wonderbra" thing I did for you at Q! ;D

I just noticed more folks whose paths I've crossed...Crockett at 93Q, and Dade Moore at KVST*

*That is a period of my life I am trying hard to forget!

Here's a little test to see how well you survived the 80's. Can you name the missing "Nacogdoches Mafia" member from KTAM/BCS days.

There was good old Shawn/Lisa, Harold Presley, Troy London, Roy Gene, and.... Kurt Williams? I'm a little fuzzy on him. He was the PD back when everybody moved through BCS Top40 onto the "big gig". They were all there at the same time.

Some Non-Nac folks passed through on their way to glory: Bobby Slam and Cody to Houston. Josh to the World. Brad to ABC New York. David and Patty to run TV in San Antonio. Jeff G. to run the world, Roxanne to Chicago, and Bruce Gilbert to PD ESPN and onward.

There are a lot of real radio people, even Neal Boortz, who know that Hiway 6 runs both ways.

I know that Ben Downs is back in Bryan-College Station, after managing KEEE/KJCS, but where is Roy Gene now? Also Gary Richards, one of the funniest DJ's I ever knew in those parts. Where is he?

Are we talking Roy Gene.. who called himself the "Tennis Shoe Cowboy" on KJCS?

Hadn't thought of him in years.

Good ole Roy Gene

That's the guy. You know, I can't remember his real name.

I know you remember Gary Richards, a really funny DJ, a darned good baseball announcer, and an interesting case study for a psychologist. Off the air he was very shy, but when he opened the mike he became a completely different person. Do you know where he is now?

While we're talking about the good old days at KEEE/KJCS, what about Susie McBay? And Joe Stephens? And the others whose names have fallen through the cracks of my aging brain?

B/CS! What a pool of talent.

Ernie Brown eventually went into syndication out of Las Vegas. I believe he is still at KRLD. He and Roy Gene made a great team. I always liked Roy. He just never liked me. ;D

Jason Hightower went in to ownership.

Alice Rios wasn't good enough for WTAW/KTSR, but within weeks landed at KRLD where she still is today.

Jeff Garrison passed through B/CS and is now my boss at KILT and a VP for CBS.

Lynn Barstow from KKYS is now the OM of KROX in Austin.

Kim Diamond from KTAM made it all the way to San Fransisco.

Jennifer Gambrell was p/t at Aggie 96 and is now part of the new morning show at WMZQ in DC.

I understand that Roger W. Garrett and Roy Gene are doing a morning thing on KORA.

I am most proud of Wheelis. I remember he and I having a beer at Double Dave's right before I left for New Orleans. He told me that he really wanted to be a jock. I'm glad he changed his mind. I am sure ABC is too.

Well, I'm in good company Josh

Roy Gene didn't like me either. Never figured out why. You're right, he's a talentd guy, but for some reason he and I just never warmed up to each other when Ben Downs and his employer took over KEEE/KJCS.

Brain Cells Still Working

I can add a few more pieces to the puzzle on the female side.

BCS also gave the world the Steele Girls, Dayna Steel of KRBE then elsewhere. Roxanne Steele is in Chicago at B96 and is writing an expose of her adventures in radio. I hope you treated her nice.

Kelly McClain is doing traffic and weather together for ... Metro?

But I can't remember (tonight) the name of the best female voice that passed through College Station. I think it was Donna Valetta (Oldner). Appearance wise, she was not tall, with very long red hair. She went to Houston to become a top v/o talent. It'll be a head-slapping moment when someone comes up with her name unless I got it right. She was interesting and had a great voice.

Mentioning Gary Richards brought forth an Amen! I never knew someone who was so shy, yet so outgoing on the air.
Roy Gene Munse uses all three names these days on the air at KORA.

I saw Troy London/Langham at NAB this year. It's amazing. He got older AND wiser. Who would ever guess that would happen.

Roy Garcia moved to Chicago and did well. But I'd still like to know what happened to Richard Moore. He goes by Brazos McDonald, or some such, and I still hear him on commercials that are sent from far away.

FYI...

Kelly McClain is no longer at Metro. She's looking for a good full time gig though... meanwhile she's working PT at 95.7 The Wave.
