Hello Larry..

Well, well...

I see that ol' buddy Larry Dixon has moved to KLUV....
Today(Saturday) was the first i have heard him on 98.7.....
the early shift, too....

Hope this will be a permanent change..........

could this mean a drive time position is not far away?

Larry would be perfect for KLUV! Let's all hope that when CB decides to hang it up, Dixon's the man. A class act, incredible voice, and a waste on the Oasis...Give this man a stage!

There was a pretty credible rumor at one point that Jon Dillon was slated to take CB's spot...I think JD even did a few Saturday shifts a month or so ago. I would vote fo JD over Dixon..IMHOP

Big question, tho--does he still have it in him? What a drag hearing him in boring monotone on the Oasis. Is that what Kurt wanted, or is that just the way he is these days? and besides Brinkmann, who else would he replace? Summers--no way. Diaz--no way. KVIL should have sent Kim packing and put Larry back in afternoon drive. But hook up 220 volt clamps to his b@lls and wake him up first.

Larry Dixon a class act? No doubt about it. An incredible voice? Absolutely, for voice-overs. A waste on the Oasis? Not really. It's about his pace. I think he sounds good there. But perfect for KLUV?! You've got to be kidding. Larry is a low-key jock. KLUV should be fun with energy. It has some now, but can sure use more. Brinkman has been mailing it in for years. When he's out, he needs to be replaced with a market veteran that people know and who can have some fun on the air. Larry was even too low key for KVIL! He's not going to change his style for KLUV. And while we're on the subject of KLUV, Jody Dean sure ain't no Ron Chapman. They made the wrong choice, however, if the rumors are true about Sunny changing format, he'll come out with some decent numbers anyway. Too bad CC is thinking of giving up on the AC battle. They're the best of the three.

I agree. Larry should stay right where he is. The Oasis is more his style. If Sunny goes under, they'll be one market pro who could end up at one of a few stations. Not too hard to compute this one.

In all fairness, what you're hearing from Larry on the Oasis is hardly all he is capable of. Have you heard his Saturday shift on KLUV? He sounds great, IS upbeat and certainly capable of it as he was for years at KVIL.
I agree that an Oldies station needs to be fun, but the fun has to be more than just playing "Born To Be Wild" and "Mony Mony"! Larry knows the market, is a bonafide pro, and can bring CONTENT to KLUV afternoons.

I listened to Jody recently and thought he sounded great. No one is Ron and that's a poor comparison. Jody was up, had content every break, and a great rapport with the callers already. What else do you want?

So, here's the plan. Jody in mornings, move Ken Barnett to middays from KVIL (the best midday jock in Dallas) and Larry in afternoons. Content every break, add some high profile promotions, and NOW you've got a "FUN" Oldies Station!

But..But..corporate research says that is not viable and the trite and true method of a shorter playlist, more spots.less talk with more liners is what the listeners want. Right, and the next Winter Olympics will be held in Mecca.

I think KLUV is trying to rid itself of the "OLDIES" tag...

sounds geriatric, i guess..

they've gone to "The Greatest Hits of the 60's and 70's."

Now, if they could only get a MUCH bigger playlist....

how many times can one hear the same songs in the morning, day after day after day...........

yeah, there were some sappy and corny songs over those decades, but hearing them occasionally wouldn't hurt anything...

It also appears that KLUV uses a different playlist on Weekends..

Larry Dixon--- come on board and take a seat!!

Larry has always sounded great. He's always been a pro and a guy with tons of class too, but your idea of upbeat and content must be a little different than mine. Larry has always had the voice and he's smooth. He's NEVER been upbeat. Not on KVIL, not on KPLX, and not on the Oasis. That's not was he does. That doesn't mean I don't like him. If KLUV wants to put him on for his name and style, great, but smooth Larry and "Takin' Care of Business" by BTO just don't go together. Sorry.
