Help “morning zoo” DJs stay off the streets and out of trouble

This isn't a bad idea. Imagine if every iPod contained an HD radio, then HD would be a smashing success.
 
Well first off I must say i'm kinda surprised smart phones such as the Iphone didn't come with the ability to pick up FM/AM radio. You would think it would be a basic app. I say surprised because the iphone/ipod basically replaced the walkman of the old days that did pick up radio stations for your listening pleasure while jogging, stuck in the backseat with your parents station playing on the car radio ect.

Now I know what your all thinking. ou can get any radio station thru apps. However they depend on a wireless internet or 3g (or whatever G your phone has) When on the road or jogging its rare to find a public wireless connection, and using 3g kills your battery. So a real non web based radio receiver would come in handy every now and then.

With that said however, it is stupid to require it, and yes I find myself streaming KYW/WIP, ect thru my Iphone on my radio, then actually listening to the stations.
 
The RIAA would be shooting themselves in the foot in a way. They will make more money in royalties if more people stream a local radio station than if they listen over the air on the same device.

One thing should be added: The radios should be HD radios.

The latest generation Nano does have a built in FM radio, and Apple made a device compatible with iPod video (and I assume now classic) and 4th generation nano that picked up FM. That aside, I would think the little matter of the iTunes store might be a good business reason not to make a big deal of radio. As for requiring it? Hell no.
 
Maybe theses things are becoming rather harder to notice, what with broadcast media stocks trading at bottom feeder status, and teetering, but even if you put an HD chip in every pop-up toaster and tooth brush let alone every cell phone, HD Radio by practically all measure of analysis, is DOA. Consumers have spoken and are simply not interested in more of what they don't listen for. Look for it at the Smithsonian near the AM Stereo exhibit.
