Help - Comrex Matrix Problem

Apparently, Comrex does not have emergency tech support on the weekend. The answering machine says "Mon-Fri 9 to 5", so...let's hope someone here can help a guy out!

My Comrex Matrix is stuck on "Initializing......"

The Comrex website says to make note of how many dots there are (in my case 6) and to call support.

Well, as Murphy's Law would have it, I need help ASAP. I need it to go "live" later today at 1pm (Saturday the 7th).

Anyone on the board work for Comrex that can help, or anyone else able to assist?

(yes I have unplugged the unit ... twice now. I have also attempted to "Flush the Modem" by trying to access the "Hidden Menu". Nothing happens when I press "Hang up" 3 times.)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Red box or Blue Box? "Initializing" readout on the send or recieve unit? This may really sound stupid, but...is there a dial tone? Is it an outside dial tone? Need "9" outside access? Phone line cords good?

Thanks amfmsw, I wasn't even sure if anyone would respond!

It's a Matrix Unit (Red and Blue are different models). It's a send and recieve unit. I cannot get the unit past initialize to dial, so I cannot get a dial tone. What may help is to have someone call into my unit. But I wil try a couple other alternatives first...Let me know if you can dial me up (just in case)...

There is a known problem with portable Vectors and Matrixes...The modem board can work loose. Remove the bottom cover and make sure that the modem circuit board is seated nice and tight.

Thanks Test123...

My unit is a Rack Mount. So I don't know that that applies...

In any case after leaving it powered down/unplugged for about 30 minutes, it seems to have gotten over it's problem.

I will follow up with Comrex on Monday or Tuesday (this is a holiday weekend of all things!) to see what the real issue may have been. I'll be glad to report my findings should anyone care to know...

I appreciate the thoughtful replies!

Interesting....... Sounds like either the caps finally discharged enough to really reset it, or something cooled down enough to make it work. When you really don't need it, I'd try putting some blankets around it and making it a bit hot/mad then start spraying some freeze spray on some of the chips in there. Something tells me you're going to find it that way.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone...

I was in contact with Comrex today. They are great to work with. They seem to think there was an issue with the modem being dislodged, or something to that effect. Should be an easy fix.

Hope you all enjoyed your Easter!

I have had the modem boards jiggle loose as well. Great boxes, though. We stopped using ours when the cell companies (cingular) stopped providing CSD (circuit switched data) services. We pretty much only used it wirelessly. Now running a Tieline with Sprint's rev A broadband doing VOIP type audio. Works great. I would have stayed with Comrex, but they didn't have a solution ready to go at the time, and we had a lot of money on the books relying on wireless remotes.
