John was buried today, and you could see his family was just heartbroken. They're a very robust, loving group, and you can tell, when they celebrate it must be quite
boisterous, but mourning for them was equally passionate. His mother is in a wheel-
chair, and seeing her grieve would just break your heart.
His brother Gary, by the way, looks exactly like him, although they are not twins, and was there for him during the entire long illness.
His family was always very proud that John made it into radio, and they were visibly warmed by
the presence of a number of his radio colleagues. I think they still view all of us, as very special, and seem rather impressed John knew all the voices on radio personally.
Im going to get a sympathy card tonight, and circulate it around all the clusters, and will find a way to get it to you independent guys. I'll see about getting it over to CC, Cox, Cumulus, etc. I dont even know where all yet.
Anyway, Whether you consider your role in radio a major one or not, if you knew John, I can tell you his family would be very appreciative of everyone's expression.
I think Kevin Charles should personally present it to Mrs. Hourani. I cant think of anyone more deserving of the honor.

I also know for a fact that Kevin got an email this evening from a friend at Clear Channel who said he'd be happy to pass the card around to his co-workers so they could sign it. So that one is taken care of... I also know that Kevin has access to all the new staff at News 92.1 FM and the rest of the Radio One crew now.... his connections also include plenty of friends and former co workers at CBS radio which is in the same building as his new employer.... and that he has connections at KSBJ as well as his old connections at Cox Radio where he worked for many years before the news job came along... He also has contacts with many former radio guys, many of whom are in the Texas radio Hall of Fame... and more.. er uh... ok...
