Help! Looking for old TV wrestling footage.

Maybe in the wrong place for this question but it does involve Texas TV in both Houston and Dallas.

Where do I find old tapes/footage of the old World Class Championship Wrestling from Dallas on KTVT 11, and Paul Boesch's Houston Wrestling promotions KHTV 39? I know WCCW's library has been purchased by Vince McMahon of the WWE, but it is a limited amount of footage that is available. Can't seem to find anything about Paul Boesch's promotion whatsoever. If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

thanks,
pd

Minneapolis Station KSTP 5 may have some and also KARE-tv 11 may have some or know where there is some.

see my post on "KHCW enbraces KHTV" there is a link on there that takes you to CW39's website. There is a tribute video on wrestling and there is a promo featuring "Macho Man" Randy Savage......

Best footage I could find was a compilation of the 70's/80's World Class on EBAY and it was noted in the Zest (Chronicle Magazine on Sunday's) that the actual Houston Wrestling tapes are being held up by his in laws or what have you over who has the rights to those.

I recently emailed KHCW and was basically told the same response. I was wondering why they didn't show the classics of yesteryear since they were the "broadcast" station that showed them.

Of course, I found Mid-South including Houston Wrestling matches on EBAY. They float around from time to time that are taped by someone way back when and put on to DVD. So-so quality but it's been near thirty years so better than nothing.

I'm pretty sure Kevin Von Erich owns all the old WCCW stuff from Dallas. He releases a few tapes from time to time. Some of it is on youtube.

I believe the WWE does.

The only major federation they don't have "yet" is Mid-South/ UWF.

Kevin must've sold it in the past couple of years then. I interviewed him 5 or 6 years ago and he said he still owned all those tapes and the rights to them.

Kevin sold it all to Vince not too long ago. Truth be told, I have access to a lot of it (the WCCW stuff from Channel 39 in Dallas from the 1980s) but it's all my mother's and she is NOT letting go of it, even for duplication. She's had a couple of Ebay opportunists try their best to get it from her, but nothing doing.

Tell us more about your mom and how she came to possess these tapes? Did she work in TV or did she record them at home?

Can we take a road trip? :p

Thanks to all for the information. Indeed, Vince McMahon owns the WCCW footage now and Michael "P.S." Hayes actually helped promote the WCCW video that I found was released by WWE last year. As far as the Houston Wrestling footage, I have found out that (of all people) Nick Bockwinkel (Former AWA World Champion) owns the rights to it, and has turned down McMahon's bids to obtain the footage a couple of times. This is why I can't find any footage to speak of on it. It's never been released. Thanks for the links! Great memories there, but I don't remember when WCCW was on 39. When I was growing up, World Class was on 11, Saturday nights at 10. The things you learn on the internet! With all this research I even found out that Jessie (From the tag team duo Jessie and Festus) is Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy's son! Who'da thunk it? I wouldn't be surprised if Vince doesn't use that as an angle and formate "The New Fabulous Freebirds" with Hayes as the manager. "The New Hart Foundation" is already in the works.

The nationally syndicated WCCW show from the Sportatorium was seen Sundays at 11am on channel 39. The show on channel 11 was from Fort Worth and was only seen in DFW.

Who told ya that?

Ken Hoffman mentioned a month or so ago that the footage was in fact with Boesch in-laws and tied up with the estate. I wrote to 39 as well and the program director mentioned something similar as well.

Right, I should say it was seen only on KTVT, which was on cable in much of Texas and surrounding states.

yragha, I had the opportunity to go down to Trader's Village on Eldridge a few days back. While there, I met this very interesting gentlemen that has a shop full of old vintage wrestling videos, merchandise, etc. For the life of me, I can't recall his name but his stage name is "Lord Humongous". He is the promoter for TASW Wrestling based out of Humble, and has cards at the old Humble Bingo Hall featuring some of the old household name talent mixed in with up and coming stars trying to get into the business. We got to talking and I asked him about the old Houston Wrestling footage. This is what he told me, and the information came straight from the family, i.e. Peter Birkholtz who is the late Paul Boesch's nephew. Fascinating story, as I found out from the gentlemen that the Houston territory and one territory in Portland are the only two "federations" that are currently unavailable, as Bockwinkel owns both and has been extremely hesitant in releasing the vintage footage of either promotion. The footage that CW39 provided on their website is the best that I can find, actually the only that I can find anywhere. He told me that it is basically impossible to get a hold of, but that hopefully that will change in the future.

Interesting. I just find it kinda odd that Nick Bockwinkel owns the Houston wrestling footage. That guy owned (not literally) the AWA out of Minnesota in the 70's & 80's. The AWA was about as big as the WWF and NWA during it's time. Of course from what I remember and this could be a bit off it ran out of money and merged with World Class, the USWA and the CWA and the rest is history.

Bockwinkel *did* own a percentage of the Houston promotion. He sold his share back to Boesch, who in turn sold it to Bill Watts.
The AWA didn't "merge" with Dallas and Memphis, but they did run a joint PPV "SuperClash 3" which tanked.
