Help Needed with Alesis IO/2 USB mixer

I am using the Alesis IO/2 USB mixer with Adobe Audition 1.5, and when a recording is played back, it plays faster and higher in pitch. Recording parameters are 44,100 mono uncompressed wav. The problem is in recording, as audio recorded on this setup plays back fast on another computer. Adobe support says it is a computer problem... any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

Definitely sounds like a sample rate issue to me..

Not really familiar with Audition.

Does it playback fine in Audition after you record it? From what I understand, the only issue is after you export and play on another computer. Is that right? What if you export and play on the same computer?

Someone else may be more familiar with the setup, but check sample rates at all points, try different players.. pinpoint what's going on.. some sample rate is wrong somewhere, or sample rate conversion is not happening..

Make sure you have the latest and correct drivers for your audio card. I've seen this problem on playback but never on record. If you record analog into your sound card (assuming you're using USB), do you get the same result?

Drivers aren't likely to be an issue as the USB driver is built into Windows.

Try recording using the computer's on board sound card and see if you have the same problem.

If that's not possible, move the Alesis interface to another computer and see if you have the same problem.

If the problem follows the Alesis that means its internal SRC is defective.

If the problem follows the computer that means there's issues with Windows and/or the Audition installation.

USB devices still have drivers, and I'd absolutely check for a newer driver than anything built into Windows. It's certainly worth a try.

Not in this case, Rox. From the Alesis product info page:

"This Alesis audio interface is a plug-and-play device, which means that no additional drivers need to be installed to use it with your computer."

It uses the Windows universal USB audio driver that's rock-solid stable.

Download Asio4All and set Audition to use ASIO and see if it goes away.

Speed is a sample rate issue. Somewhere, there is an inconsistency in the sample rate.

Not an option, Chris. According to the OP they're running 1.5 - ASIO support is in version 2 and above.

Re: Help STILL Needed with Alesis IO/2 USB mixer

Actually, the problem still exists. I loaded the latest ASIO drivers from Alesis, installed them, and no change. This is for a home setup for a broadcaster who is a friend to do imaging and commercials for my stations and severals others. But, for right now we can put this on hiatus as my friend will be away from his computer for about a week. THANKS SO MUCH to everyone who is offering help - we WILL solve this!

If you record the sample on the Windows built-in Sound Recorder (%SystemRoot%\system32\sndrec32.exe), do you get the same result? Have you tried Audacity (free) to see if the problem is with your computer or with Audition?

Thanks for the update. If you want to solve the problem quickly, review the steps I posted on the previous page - it's based on proven troubleshooting techniques, not guessing or speculation.

Thanks to Pellmell and SRP. I was going to try the internal recorder, but my friend left for Thanksgiving with his family. So I will do that, and also follow SRP's earlier suggestions.

WHEN we get this working, I will review the methods to make it work so someone else can search later and not have to re-invent the wheel...

Happy Thanksgiving!
