HELP TO IDENTIFY MUSIC

Sounds like the Maynard Ferguson version of the "Rocky" theme "Gonna Fly Now," or something else by Ferguson. Anyone?

cd

That definitly sounds like Maynard Ferguson since I'm an old band geek (trumpet player) and I most of his albums on vinyl. But I don't recognize the tune from any Maynard album I've heard. Its not Herb Albert or Chuck Mangione since they play mostly mellower music and don't do as many lip trills and octave jumps. Besides, Chuck Mangione plays the fluegel horn which is much mellower that the trumpet.

Why not send an e-mail to Radio Azul and ask them the name of the artist.

 Now there's an idea; why didn't I think of that?

Good Ear!

Except the part right after the female voice tries to pin the mic diaphragm to the stops, which I think is from something entirely else. ELP? King Crimson? Sugarloaf? Something else I heard 40 years ago?

But anyway the part with the horns is definitely somebody's version of Chase's "Get It On".

Or maybe Alan Parsons?

I have to concur that it's somebody's take on "Get It On" by Chase, and yes, it's got a Maynard Ferguson sound to it. We have a number of Maynard Ferguson albums at the station, I'll check them.

spunker88 is right, but so is Silkie, sort of.

And I'm wrong.

 :( :'( :-[ in no particular order

The link SFM-Ptgal posted starts with the beginning of the Star Wars link spunker88 posted and ends with the ending of it, neither of which part were any part of what John Williams wrote.

That "cascading" opening Ferguson uses is pure Chase and not John Williams, and sounds very like the middle of "Get It On".

Of course since Bill Chase worked with Maynard prior to forming Chase, who knows where that lick originally came from.

Now I've just got to sort through 40 odd years (some odder than others) of memory to identify that part in the middle.
