Heard it live myself...and I remember "Mr Leonard" in the background doing his trademark "ooo oooo ooo" ....I recall the FM was still on 92.5 at the time..
I also used to listen to the AM in stereo when they went Kahn and later CQuam...
I thought the AM sounded better in stereo than the FM myself ;)

...btw, while trying to refresh memory and remain on subject, when did the 92.1 fm out of CLC/Seabrook(KZRQ Z-92, then KYND later) come into play during this period?

.....KAUM....that's another one that stirs memories.....trying to recall when it went from KXYZ-FM to KAUM.....was this about the time KXYZ-AM went disco (studio 13) or beforehand?.....by the time AM was spun off to become a Spanish Language broadcast, I believe that 96.5 was KAUM already....

.....curious about that one!.....

Just about the same time. KZRQ is arguably the most obscure Houston FM of the last 25 years, even more so than "Star of the Bay" KSTB 101.5 or KKHU "You 106.9."

An aircheck of Z-92 would sure be a treasure to find, since it didn't last long.

KXYZ-FM started playing the ABC-FM Love tapes in the spring or summer of 1970, flipped to KAUM in September. I think the calls lasted until mid-1980, but that may have already been covered in this thread.

KXYZ-AM stuck with Beautiful Music until '74 at least or maybe '75.<P ID="signature">______________

KZRQ "Z92"

KZRQ... I vaguely remember mention of KZRQ "Z92" here on this board. Wasn't it top 40?

Yep, also the most heavily processed station in the US :) plus I think they laid claim to being the 1st all digital FM (processing and airchain that is)..
A friend of mine who worked at the former KWIC (107.9) in Beaumont worked at Z92 for a while....(and you KNOW who owned it right?)

I remember them playing alot of extended or alternate versions of the hits. Good stuff. I had tape on them but it's been a good while since I've seen it.

Speaking of KWIC-FM Beaumont...

I distinctly remember after KWIC left Beaumont, and moved into Houston as a rimshot, there was a week where they were playing the same song over and over and over again, from different formats. Example, one day it was "Friends in Low Places" by Garth Brooks, the next day it was "Two Princes" by Spin Doctors. Does anyone have this "stunting" recorded? I want to say this was around 1993 or 1994.

Would you be open to making a copy for me, or selling me a copy of the tape?

I just sent it, along with KKBQ flipping to country, and the launch of KHMX.
Hopefully it wont be long before it's posted on the Format Change website.

Hey, thanks for all the info guys (and gals). The response was way more than I expected but I knew I could count on all of you. If you've got more... keep it coming. Again thanks!

Thats sounds like the stunting ElDorado did when they signed on 107.9 under their ownership...except it was another song by the Spin Doctors ...
maybe "Little Miss Cant Be Wrong"??...I remember hearing Friends in Low Places over and over the 1st weekend (especially since I helped build their control room on Post Oak)...that was in 95 and KWIC left Bmt before 93.

I have several airchecks of KKBQ, including the format flip from 93Q from rock (Yes it was playing rock in 1991 after it dumped Top 40) to easy country 92.9. TxCody, I have several morning shows taped with John Lander and the Q morning zoo circa 1987-1988. I also have several minutes of KRBE poking fun at KKBQ for flipping to country. I would like to get my hands on the flip from 92.5 KYND to 92.9 KKBQ in 1982. Along those lines, anyone remember how it was presented on KKBQ-AM? Of course, moving frequencies on FM, would give you a moment of dead air, while recording. This wouldn't have happened on 790. Was 790 simulcasting the flip of 92.5/92.9?

Hey I stumbled on this in a google search. Funny my own post. Can I get copies of this from you? Id love to have this stuff.

Mediafrog said:
> I've seen somewhere that KRBE signed on in 1975. Is that true? Anyone?

1958 I believe. Was classical in the early years. Flip to Top 40 was in the very late 60's, IIRC.

Growing up in the BPT area, I grew up listening to KRBE when they were still on One Shell Plaza's master antenna (that was not easy with the cheap Radio Shack tuner and inside antenna)....and Kenny Miles (Miles in the Morning) doing "President Jimmy" and his fireside chats (I still remember one funny one about Brother Billy and an Indian riding bareback ;)...Even Roger WWWWWW Garrett on at night...
I especially recall being in Houston in 74 for a DeMolay conclave at the old Rice Hotel and had the stereo cranked on 104 (Houston's Money Music station then) when Clay Gish was PD....GOD they sounded fantastic then! (WHEW that was a buried memory!)

I remember KUFO as having the same jingle as KEEZ in San Antonio in the early to mid 70's...ROCK 106 KUFO and ROCK 97 KEEZ.
