My wife and daughter bought me a xm3020 and delfi myfi do I need both? I have not opened either one but reading on internet must be attached to window pointing south? How does portable work and how easy if possible to use same myfi from house to car. Thank you from a 57 year old who's knowlede of radio is how to turn on and off.

You don't need both but both is better.

A window facing south is ideal since that's where the satellites are stationed. If you live in a big city, there's a good chance a repeater is refeeding the signal not far away, thus making it easier to pick up.

Yes you can use the MyFi from house to car if you have the MyFi vehicle kit. Just hook that up, and you can plug it into your car just like you can with your XM3020.
 
depending on your location you may or may not need the window.i am in louisiana and i get reception everywhere. my antennas are no way near any windows and i get all 6 bars,(signal strenght meter)..but if you are in the north like new york or boston you may need to be near a window.
