Do you all think it would be possible for the personnel from WWL or any other station from NO to come and use one of our studios?? I know that WBAP, KRLD, KSKY, and KLIF have room to spare in their studios. We could put some WWL people in one of those empty rooms, and all we would have to do is get it to their transmitter, which shouldn't be too difficult.

I think it would be a great idea. The people who are trying to help out their fellow citizens are in danger because they are braodcasting from unsafe places. Do you think this suggestion would be possible? And if yes... PLEASE DO IT!!! Those of you in the business... PLEASE CONSIDER THIS!!!!

That's already been discussed :)

BTW... I'm off to Baton Rouge tomorrow. Hope I'm up on *insert-vaccination-shots-here* I'll be there a week or so. Yes, it's work related.

Susquehanna has a spare studio. The KLIF boys use it when they fill-in for the national blowhards. Hell they could use the KLIF studios in fact. About 5 people would notice the static and call in to bitch that KLIF was off the air.

All kidding aside, I thought a lot of the NO stations were cohabitating with stations in Baton Rouge. I think Clear Channel is making long-term arrangements to have either Citadel or Cumulus New Orleans in their Baton Rouge building. That'd be a lot cheaper than setting up a signal between Big D and New Orleans.

Market size shifts?

New Orleans was market 46. With the mass exodus from the city to Baton Rouge, Houston and here....any guesses on what number the surrounding markets will be this time next year?<P ID="signature">______________

Frankly, I don't think it will matter for some time.

Obviously, Arbitron will be unable to conduct surveys in affected areas for some time.

Ironically, if I'm not mistaken, a trend was released for New Orleans the day after the hurricane.

More importantly, the above posts show a good heart by those people toward those unfortunate residents trying to cope with a monumental task.

If you would like to help with a gift, the Red Cross can be reached at 1-800-HELP NOW or at www.redcross.org.

That's really a good question. I don't forsee a lot of the residents returning to New Orleans at all. New Orleans itself will take years to rebuild if then. Take a look at Florida. The victims of last years hurricanes are still living in government supplied trailers and not many businesses have rebuilt and open. One spokesperson from the Homeland security office said this tragedy maybe greater than 911. Just imagine a week ago, this storm wasn't even formed yet as a tropical depression. The people of New Orleans was enjoying everyday life and tourists were flocking to it for their summer vacations. What a difference a few days can make and alter many lives forever. Prayers are needed around the clock . The Red cross needs you as well as the Salvation Army. It's time once again to pull together and help our neighbor.

WWL did a great job.

Not to be flip, but is anyone old enough to remember "King Edward Cigar Time" timechecks on WWL in the early '60s?

When hurricanes threatened then, WWL was always on top of things.

...and continues to do so from Baton Rouge now. It's really
compelling listening (kept me up all night).

They were doing them into the late 60's as I recall. At least
through the 60's (and maybe into the early 70's), WWL was
still in the Roosevelt Hotel and had a nightly broadcast of
live music from the Blue Room of that hotel. It was (and still
is) a class act.
