Hendrix College Seeking Play-by-Play Announcer

Hendrix College is looking for a Play-by-Play Announcer for it's Men's and Women's Basketball and Baseball games.

Just out of technonerd interest, how will they be sending out their games? Over the web, over the air, or over the air from a web hookup?

I visited with their athletic director, Danny Powell, a few days ago because I have several students that are interested in this.

They are apparently looking at all available options. They have occasionally had games on KASR-FM in Conway over the past several years. I got the impression when it is all said and done, they will probably do the games exclusively on the internet.

As far as the position is concerned, I think what they are looking for is a contract announcer. It does not involve a full time gig with the College.

Right now, they are just looking at men and womens basketball and baseball. Football is also a possibility with Hendrix adding that sport in the next few years.

If you have questions or further information, I would suggest you call Danny at 501-450-1391.

I'm told that the idea is to put the games on the net via a phone loop. Why anyone would do that in this day and age is beyond me. There are any number of services that will get you on the 'net with much higher quality (even at 24 bits) than a phone feed at very reasonable prices.

I'm doing that now with minor league baseball via shoutcast, although Live/365 has some big advantages for a small increase in price.

Also if you wanted to put the games on the radio, all you have to do is give the station the url and tell them feed a computer into their board.

Why anyone would go to the expense of using a phone coupler and put up with the relatively low quality of a dial up line does not compute.
