Herald: Andelman's return

http://business.bostonherald.com/businessNews/view.bg?articleid=125980

by Jay Fitzgerald

Eddie Andelman, the father of local sports-talk radio, is making a comeback with “The New Sports Huddle” — a partial ode to Andelman’s groundbreaking show of the 1970s and ’80s. Andelman, 69, whose last gig at WWZN-AM (1510) was canceled due to a station shakeup in October, said he’s signed up with WTKK-FM (96.5) (sic) to do a show every Sunday night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., starting April 2.
“It’s not going to be that yelling and screaming with conflicts of interest stuff,” said Andelman, an outspoken critic of the direction of talk radio in recent years.

(Note: web version of article incorrectly lists WTKK's freq. Well, I'm off
to listen to "WEEI 810" :)

Isn't it great when there's a radio station that's willing to "bring back a good radio personality?" It's too bad other radio stations IN ALL MARKETS aren't willing to give a 'seasoned professional' another try? [You'll notice I avoided the word: OLD].

Too bad Eddie's show is on from 7-10pm Sunday nights! He'll have to compete with various "must see television crap" that's probably not worth the 15 second promo? Here's hoping WTKK-FM will give Eddie and his buddies enough time to grab an audience... and not cancel the show if the numbers aren't terrific after one or two rating books!

WELCOME BACK, EDDIE!

No conflicts of interest? Yeah,right... how often will he be sucking up to his business buddies and partners on the air? His last show was often a free ad for Fuddruckas, as he'd say it. He has on people that often have little knowledge of sports Or gambling wiseguys such as Sid Diamond and the like. Or over the hill announcers such as "The Colonel"? Eddie is long past his prime.. he was funny at one point but that point was almost 30 years ago.

Amen. An angry and nasty man to have to work with. Nothing cute about him in real life. Ask Jim and Mark how they got screwed just like anyone else. Know why he railed on how lame hockey and the Bruins are all those years? He had a bad business deal with Harry Sinden once. Everything is personal and paranoid about the man. Even if you're nice to him the paranoid side takes over and he makes sure he gets you anonymously for what he imagines you're doing to him. Horrible to work with. Then again, Who doesn't know this? And by the way, his stupid sons come before you and your family.

Wow, someone uncorked a nice can of bitterness.

I would be surprised if Eddie's show *weren't* a time buy. Dude has enough coin to handle it.

And Eddie's "feuds," from Jim Baker to Will McDonough to Bob Kraft, are well chronicled. They pretty much end when they're no longer beneficial for Eddie to wage.

Eddie should have finished that sentence: "My show is going to be that you agree with everythig I say and you tell me how great you think I am. If you don't agree with everything I say, I will chastise and berate you without giving you a word in edgewise. Then I will hang up on you and feebly attempt to ridicule you and say bad words about you when you have no ability to defend yourself or retort. That is the Andleman way. It shouldn't matter if I didn't see the game last night or for the last 1000 nights, my opinion is superior to yours because I am more educated then anyone else in the lower 48; it is impossible for your opinion to hold water against mine."

Amen to the Amen. He sat there and trashed the Bruins day in and day out and the ONLY source he had to how the Bruins were doing was the standings in that day's paper. He admittedly hadn't watched a game on 20+ years. he shown the personal bitterness too much on the air. He hasn't been a professional broadcaster in YEARS

It's too easy to knock him,so I won't. Will he have Jim or Mark on as a guest--ever? If not,my guess is that most of the above is true.

I acknowledge he was a major part of talk radio in town but yes, as has
been said elsewhere, maybe he's lost his fastball. I do know that they
do spoof him on Whiner Line as a guy who clears his throat right on air, etc.
The article quotes him as saying he wants nothing to do with WEEI.
So, he wants nothing to do with high ratings, I'm guessing.<P ID="signature">______________

Perhaps the Herald's tuner isn't calibrated?

This has all the trappings of when Jerry Williams was making his "comeback" on the low-power AM stations in the year or two before his death. Those shows were pretty sad, often his health problems would prevent him from coming on the air so they'd repeat a show he did twenty years earlier.

You knew the end was near when WRKO invited him back for one last stint before their microphone. Eddie better watch out if WEEI makes him a similar offer.

Yes, they do have a pseudo-Eddie on the Whiner line and whoever does it can be pretty funny. I also believe he has nothing to do with WEEI's high ratings and IMO he had something to do with 1510's low ones. I will grant that Eddie played a part in whatever ratings 1510 got because he does have his fanbase. But he was so happy to predict WEEI's demise and his old WEEI slot got bigger and better ratings after his departure. No Patriots SuperBowl, no Red Sox World Series and they got BETTER ratings than before, so Eddie can take that WEEI NEP/BRS excuse out of his interviewing speech.

The guys on EEI dont do that right??? No I didnt think so(rolling my eyes)

as others mentioned, his so-called hatred of hockey goes back to a long-running feud with Harry Sinden.

amusingly, I remember when WRKO had a sports show with Dick Lutsk and Eddie was on WHDH at the time, I think... WRKO's promos went "we'll talk about all sports... including hockey."
