Herald blog has the 25-54 numbers

http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/messengerBlog/?p=337

In the all listeners category WEEI was #1 followed by Magic, Kiss, Jam'n, Mike, 'ZLX, WBZ, etc.
WTKK just barely edged out WRKO in 13th and 15th place.

For morning drive, mornings on Kiss was #1 followed by John and Where's Gerry on 'EEI.
Felon ranked #15. 'TKK was above them (Imus? Barnicle?)

pm drive no surprise, THE Big Show and its weiner whiner line is #1. Howie was fifth, barely
ahead of Severin.

you can stick a fork in 'ods and their boring playlist and iconic personalities. when you get trounced by mike-fm, you can't comepte.

Thanks for pointing out this link! Can anyone see deeper breakdown or are those 'hidden' from non-radio types? Excuse the Arbitron ignorance. :-\

I'm specifically interested in whether you can tell the age difference between majority of BZ and KISS morning listeners. And people's opinions in general as to how reliable these ratings are.
Thanks.

and WJMN remains AHEAD of ODS in 25-54!
Look like Boston 25-54 Crowd, love to go the club and say" a Bay Bay Bay ".

you can stick a fork in 'ods and their boring playlist How true, I simply cannot listen to them. The same songs over and over again....a sure cure for insomnia.

The various software packages from Arbitron allow the user to break out the age composition of a station's audience. Only available to subscribers, however.

There have been multiple issues over the years with Arbitron's methods and rates of diary returns over the years. However, in the real world, Arbitron is all there is...and their ratings, whether right or wrong, are the economic basis for virtually the entire radio station ad agency business, which amounts to trillions of dollars every year.

In the few markets where the new Personal People Meter has been used, there have been several massive upheavels in ratings, particularly in Philadelphia, where a format once thought to be listened to mostly by older demos (CBS' oldies station WOGL) saw their ratings nearly triple and their average listening demos drop. Supposedly that's what spurred CBS to bring back a classic-hits-based format on WCBS-FM in New York. The PPM solves a myriad of problems with the diary-based methodology. EVERY instance of a PPM user listening to a station, no matter how briefly, is automatically recorded on the device with no action necessary from the user. Moreover, the listening is recorded contemporaneously...no more waiting until the end of the day to fill out the diary, no more struggling to remember what the user listened to and when the listening occurred, no more mangling of call signs, positioning slogans or dial positions. If you've ever seen a filled-out diary, you'd know what I'm talking about. It's a wonder some stations get any listening credits at all.

What a poor showing by BCN.

JMN is gonna bury them. It'd behoove Infinity to WZMX the 104.1 frequency. At least a 3rd rate hack like Nik carter could pull down a #1 rating doing a rock/talk show afternoons.

Rock is dead in the hub!

I say Boston could use a NON Rap rhythmic station.

I agree but who would be willing to do it?

Good question.

I would say WBOS because of its p*** poor numbers. If I were an ad buyer dealing with the 'BOS sales staff, I'd tell them that my foot business is way off because of their putrid ratings and suggest that they switch formats. Granted that a 1.4 is only cosmetic number but I'm willing to guess that they aren't any more than a 2.4 where it counts.

Given that WODS (soon to have new calls) will be switching to classic rock soon (classic rock, classic hits, same difference), now is the time for 'BOS to switch to a rhythmic format with plenty of room for Motown, disco, etc. Using WZLX (circa 1986) and WROR as examples, their idea of classic hits usually sounded like this:

Slow Ride - Foghat
Evil Woman - ELO
No Time - Guess Who
Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin
I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Marvin Gaye (the one non-rock classic per hour)
Down On The Corner - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Roadhouse Blues - The Doors
Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith
Hells Bells - AC/DC
Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac
Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix
In The City - The Eagles

And yes, 'ZLX did sound like that in '86 during my junior year at ZooMass-Boston! I can definitelt imagine 'ROR and Mike sounding like that as well, although Mike's playlist is a little more up-to-date.

103.3 should just copy what is happening oin New York with CBS FM.

I still like the idea of 104.1 being rapless RnB and ZLX getting into more contemporary rock leaving the hard stuff to AAF.

I do not see CBS merging the 2 formats. Also with WBOS continuing to be Greater Media's second highest bidder, I highly doubt they would switch either. The only real option would be WBMX, however their ratings continue to be ok though.

Say what?

They are barely making it into the top 10 in the demo!

Contemporary Rock without the "hard stuff" sounds like WBOS.
Are you sure that would be a good idea?
