Herald: CBS4's Mish and Barry Not Happy with Ken Barlow

The "Inside Track" gals are at it again, claiming that Mish and Barry have not warmed up to Ken, and that apparently he did not know how to work the equipment (which explains why he was off-air last week). I have no idea if this is just the Herald blowing smoke, or if there really is some drama going on at Soldiers Field Road... just as everything seemed to finally be coming together for them, huh?

he seems like a quick learner, though. this week, mish has been doing some
handholding(she does the current doplah readings and then throws it over
to ken) ken appears to be competent. he nailed wed's storm on tuesday late news. no complaints. so far, he's 1 for 1. it's more than you could say for unreliable ed. the track biatches are just doing their typical 'welcome to boston' warm-up act. no big surprise.

Maybe WBZ-4 should have given Ken Barlow the chance to be fully trained on and be familiar with all their equipment prior to going on-the-air.

Maybe he'd even have a better relationship with his colleagues as a result.

Maybe they should rebrand as Eyewitness News, and stop focusing on anchors. But, you've all heard my rant about that before...

The equipment story sounds bogus, what was he using in Minn.,a pointer?

I'm not buying that sweet Mish Michaels was mad at the guy that she wanted to take her job. Barlow has done a good job in his first week, better than Pete Bouchard anyway.

Well, there's two things to keep in mind:
1. Most things are related to money
2. Anchors have egos.

So, I would take the story with a grain of salt. Here's the thing.
In the times that I've worked in television, I've found that, most of the time, squabbles about money are usually not discussed on the set. On the other hand, most anchors that I've had the displeasure of working with care mostly about how they look and sound on the air, and little else, and "its everyone elses job to make them look great." Anchors are like doctors, they normally cover for each other, (at least, that's been my experience, results may vary, use as directed).

(You can tell what opinion I have of TV News anchors).

Anyway, nothing in the story about the Mish, Barry and Ken show sounds typical of what goes on during a news cast. Every time a weathercaster joins a new station, it takes time for that person to get aquianted with the new equipment. No two stations have exactly the same way of doing things. The same is true for radio. Was there really a tiff behind the scenes? We'll never know, but I doubt it. Chances are, if there was anything, it was about money, in which case, we would't have heard about it anyway.

Consider The Source

Gossip mongers. Well, I guess it keeps them off the streets of Bay Village.

Re: Consider The Source

gossip mongers that are accurate like 97% of the time.

Well when you get half of tomorrow's news from today's papers, you increase your chances of being right. To back up my point: They ranted and raved on their radio spot a couple years ago about their revealing article regarding the Tyco chief's lavish lifestyle. Even going as far as lauding about his ultra-expensive umbrella holder. I wasn't shocked at all. Their entire story and then some had already been reported the for the last two days in the Wall Street Journal. FRONT PAGE WSJ! After viewing their article, I almost wanted to fish in my trash for the paper to compare and see if they pulled a Barnicle. They pulled two days of WSJ Tyco articles and talked about it like they discovered it. Trashy, simply trashy. Maybe those dolts think they can get away with crap like that because they feel that the people who read their article would pick up a National Enquirer long before they read an issue of the Wall Street Journal.

I believe EVERY word of the Inside Track story. This guy seems like a typical "smiling face" who is a meteorological lightweight. And, real meteorologists never appreciate being bossed around by a "chief' who knows little more than the difference between rain and sunshine.

Trust me, when a nor'easter is coming - you'd better tune to Harvey on WCVB!

At my former station, we once hired a chief met whose goal for the future was to be a game show host. Nice guy - but, one who knew almost nothing about the weather. And, even less about his new area. Hired for his nice smile and good looks (like Barlow). In the end, he was replaced by a real meterologist who has now been there for more than a decade.

Our guy with the winning smile now hosts infomercials for the Temperpedic mattress.
