Herald Column Bashes "Unnamed" Talk Show Host

I wouldn't call it a "blast." That's a bit hyperbolic. I'd call it providing a local angle to the subject.

New Englanders can't really empathize with anyone outside our little reality. We tend to laugh at the misfortunes of others and brush off their trevails.

However, when it's "one of us," we swarm. We revel in the misery of our own politicians/athletes/entitled.

I took the "blast" as a well-placed example that would create a "chum-in-the-water" effect. To me, that's just good writing. Let's face it, we all secretly hope to have the following that the unnamed host believes he has. That's part of why we do this..

We all want the adoration of the unseen. It justifies whatever social inequity we all feel inside. Anyone in radio who hasn't accepted that facet, hasn't grown to that point yet. It is truly a tipping point in your career when you have that epiphany.

We are in the "please love me" business.

Joe Fitzgerald pulled back the curtain. Good writing.
