Herald: ESPN Boston welcomes changing of Sox

http://business.bostonherald.com/businessNews/view.bg?articleid=192441

"It hasn’t been easy for 890 ESPN Boston. After all, the AM station has to contend with one of the biggest sports talk broadcasters in the country: WEEI-AM (850).But with WEEI handing over play-by-play of Red Sox games to sister station WRKO-AM (680)*, ESPN Boston (890-AM and 1400-AM) is hoping the change will give the young station a chance to take a bite out of its rival’s ratings. Yesterday, ESPN Boston launched a new pre-game baseball show with local host Kevin Winter, while moving host and Herald columnist Mike Felger’s show to an earlier time slot."

*--but WEEI will still carry quite a few
ESPN 890 is attempting to boost its nighttime signal, the article says.

I will say that ESPN Boston does show up in the ratings and they've
even run some TV ads.
The article says they are hoping to "almost double" their night-time
power. WAMG 890 (I assume they're not talking about WLLH 1400,
their sister station) is said to be 3,400 watts at night and they
have a CP to go 6,000 watts at night

Current night pattern:

CP night pattern:
http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WAMG&service=AM&status=C&hours=N

The CP expires in May of '09.
Daytime coverage would prob be the same:

sometimes it'll come in at night north of Boston but the other night I put 890 on and it was WLS instead. Naturally the new night signal, as with the old, is pointed away from Chicago.

Big deal, they still don't come close to even half of what Mega did.

But I guess white listeners are more valuable than Hispanic listeners.

reminds me of the 3/5s compromise we learned about in history class where black folks were only considered 3/5 of a person.
