From Business section of today's Herald. Excerpt:

"Steve Jones has been working the airwaves since he was a teenager. Now, at 35, the former on-air personality is taking the program director post at WMKK (93.7 FM), the Boston station that last April redubbed itself ``Mike'' and switched to disc-jockey-free airtime.

"'Our goal here is to bring as many flavors as possible,' Jones said. 'I want people to turn (Mike) on and go: "I haven't heard that in years."'"

Nah the rumour is that APD Joe Cortese doesnt want it and Pete Falconi will be named pd of ODS soon. Ironically he was Pd of the ill fated Eagle 93.7.......the mor ethings change, the more they stay the same.

Jerry McKenna is still at Mike until he makes his transition to BMX - or until Jones makes his way to MIKE FM.

Who is the informant? Not Karl Rove - both writers seem to be getting help from the Corporate press releases, do they not?

Some stations in Canada have already reinstated some of the ''old style" institutions, such as DJs.

Because,

Jack is not a format! And Mike is not Jack. Different consultant. Same format as Jack, just like Jack, but not Jack.

Obviously, the Herald doesn't know Jack...

I'm not so sure what listeners he's talking about, usually when you have a new radio station introduced into a market the trends tend to spike at least a little. But in Mike's case they went down which is pretty much unheard of! I'm sure the suits over at Mike are wondering if this really was a good change! I've also heard they've been steadily losing clients!

Speaking of Jockless radio. If The Herald did more homework they would have noted that 100.1 The Pike has been without jocks longer than 93.7.

Mike is not Jack!
That's the gist of my point. Mike FM is Variety Hits. Jack FM is Variety Hits. but Mike is not Jack. Jack is not Mike.

I stand by my original post.
Mike don't know Jack, and neither does the Boston Herald.

However, "The Pike" doesn't really come in around Boston, so that may be a reason it's not mentioned in a Boston newspaper article. It's a metro-west/central MA signal.

In Boston and the immediate western suburbs, it's all cut up by the Brandeis University station WBRS Waltham on the same frequency. Neither come in well around Boston, just the two signals cutting each other up.

"The Pike" overtakes WBRS quickly west of Route 128.
