WGVC FM losing oldies format

WGVC 106.3 FM will lose its oldies format when it comes under new ownership, its new owner said.

Entercom Communications is in the process of purchasing WGVC, along with WROQ 101.1 FM and WTPT 93.3 FM from Barntable Broadcasting Group for $45 million.
At the same time, Entercom is selling WSPA 910 AM, along with WOLT 103.3 FM and WOLI 103.9 FM, to Davidson Media Group.

WOLI and WOLT are simulcast as contemporary Christian stations known as The Walk.

Tom Durney, vice president and market manager for Entercom Greenville, said his company will move The Walk and its contemporary Christian format to WGVC when the deal is finalized.

Durney said Entercom has no plans to change WROQ's classic rock format or WTPT's new rock format, because both stations are very successful.

Pending Federal Communications Commission approval, the sale should be final within a few months.

Ha. I'm not surprised anymore.....Guess preset #1 will have to be changed to 92.9 after they flip.

Wow, didn't someone just predict that a few weeks ago?

Like I said, I gave up on predicting the big guys a long time ago...But why give up $1.7M in billing for $400k?

So here's a question for ya....would you folks be willing to listen to AM if it meant you got to hear Oldies in Greenville?

I would -- Where I live I can get either 1090 WCZZ from Greenwood or 92.9 WZLA from Abbeville....And of course in Northern Greenville there's 96.5 WOXL.

It's a small caption in Sunday's (6/26) Business section
