Herald: Local stations fill niche after dial shake-up

Glad Ed Perry and WATD is getting its due in Boston media. With WGBH being mostly news is there any reason that WCAI its Cape news service is still on WGBH-FM HD3?

Irks me to no end that reporters always lump CBS Radio Boston in with companies that have gutted local stations. It's just not the case, if they would bother to research. It's been my experience that CBS Radio is committed to compelling local content. I would say that all of our stations are live and local 18 hours a day, seven days a week. The only exception right now is Amp, which will be soon. Hell, we have a three person afternoon show on Mix which is unheard of anywhere, but the story line always reads...there's no more local radio. Hogwash!

The article should have mentioned WBOQ as a source for oldies. It has some major coverage holes, including WRBB planted right on its frequency in a small section of Boston proper, but it's still an option for a decent portion of the listening area, especially north of the city and west to Framingham. It is very local when it's live, but unfortunately its live hours are quite limited; it runs on autopilot at night and all weekend. But you can't beat its playlist unless you want to check out internet options.

Karson, the CBS stations deserve credit for putting local voices on the air and getting out into the community, but WODS's playlist was dishwater dull, focus group safe, consultant approved, and contained no regional hits at all. Judging from the music played, the station might as well have been in Omaha.

I reckon those who've gotten the ax at 1030 feel this way.

It's a shame that a big market like this can't have a live overnight presence, save WBZ.

and endless Ellie Goulding spins (last week AMP 103.3 played Goulding’s “Lights” 20 times in a single day),

Seriously? That's just nuts. 140 spins a week is more than even Radio Disney. No wonder listeners complain we play songs
into the ground. Our powers rotate every 3 hours and I think even that is too tight.
