Putting Howie on other affiliates like WCRN (and WKBK, where he's back...) can help. The "simultaneous on
WEEI and WRKO" deal was part of the overall philosophy which is:
--The Red Sox can help WRKO's numbers not just during gametime but people will hear the promos
for other shows and possibly tune in
--Keep WEEI in the picture by doing Wed. night and weekday afternoon games
--Can do well by having the Sox game on 'RKO and Mikey talking sports on 'EEI
The reg season opener and home opener were on both stations...part of it was to cement in people's
minds the idea that WRKO is the flagship now--but WEEI would also get to do some games. Once those
games ended people could stay tuned to 'EEI for sports talk, etc. (WEEI now extends local sports
talk to 1 am on days when the Sox play by the way)
Note that last night Mikey was all set to talk about the Sox game but Papplebon gave up the game
tying HR and it went briefly into extra innings--and for a few minutes WEEI had the game on as well
(though it was delayed by 7 seconds, as you might guess).
I think Entercom figures people will hear the game on 'RKO (exc. on Wed nights) then switch to
'EEI for the post-game talk. If they don't like baseball they can enjoy Mikey's sports talk (hey,
he might be talking about the Pats instead!) on WEEI
during the game.
The idea is: WRKO as talk until 6:30 pm when it briefly becomes the Red Sox Station Except On Wednesday
Nights And The Moon Is In Capricorn.

Needless to say, the numbers WRKO is getting for the Sox
at night beats what they'd normally get for syndie talk (Savage).
