Herald: WEEI's Smerlas may run for Congress in NY

Okay, that's a little odd. Why run against Slaughter when there's a district immediately adjacent to hers that currently has no rep at all (Massa's former district) and is heavily Republican? (Massa rode an anti-Bush / pro-Obama wave and still barely squeaked in)

Granted, Slaughter's district encompasses a lot of Buffalo (where Smerlas played for the Bills) and it also stretches along the Lake Ontario shore to encompass a lot of Rochester (where he's heard on WHAM). But still, it's kinda odd given that there's a prime opportunity to grab the 29th whereas any Republican trying to beat Slaughter will be in for a serious fight. Even if she retires, it'd still be a fight against her image.

Eh, this is more a political question than a radio one, though. Or perhaps more precisely, it's a question about tabloid newspaper trying to fill the pages with anything it can. ;D

He neither lives nor owns property in the district he's possibly going to represent? I don't get it.

That's not too hard to get done if one really wants to run for a political office in a non-home state. Just ask Hillary Clinton.

I heard this on "Talk of the Nation" for what it is worth. There is no Constitutional requirement that a Representative live in the district to which he is elected. Supposedly in Illinois a Republican was nominated in a district in which he did not live.

Don't forget Bobby Kennedy.
