Herald: WTKK won't renew McPhee contract

Creative differences--will do last show sometime in Dec
[/quote]

Caught her show a couple of weeks ago while waiting for the Batchelor Show to start. Absolutely unlistenable.

Regards,
TSB

"Creative differences," so says management.

What - she wants out because they want her to shriek less?

Cant believe she lasted as long as she did. One of the worst talk radio personalities anywhere strictly on talent and technique.

Carr has zero radio qualifications either, cripes he can't even get the top of the hour phone numbers read done right EVER, but he is still employed.

Yes she has a voice that would not be considered by most people "professional", but she is live, she is local, she is conservative, and I'd rather have that than Savage, who is still spouting about the "200 million dollar a day" trip by the POTUS that has been thoroughly
discredited.

Severino doesn't have a voice for radio either IMHO, what the heck is that shrieking distorted read at the top of the show every day?

The "creative differences" thing is interesting though. Even Jimmy Myers released a statement praising 96.9's management, and he dislikes everyone!

So where does she go? Mornings on WRKO I hope! Mid days on WRKO I hope, Nights on WRKO I hope, 1200 I hope not.

I think we may be seeing more of her on Fox25

Could there be changes happening there two people the same week not renewed??? Hopefully a format change won't hold my breath but who knows!!!

Could be sports but I won't get my hoped up ! In Philly they have espn on fm fulltime. That would be great here. Espn could like that then there current relationship with weei. But who knows.

ESPN clears their morning show on 97.5 WPEN-FM here. Rest of the day it's live and mostly local. The 950 sister runs a bit more of the net feed.

Boston has always been known as a unique market, with the listeners not following the leader in some ways, so as much as ESPN may have a following in other markets, I think the locals will stick to the 2 existing stations that are focused on the local teams, and avoid anything with a national focus.

I think the Greater Media sports format ship sailed past Castle Island and out to sea when GM was not able to reach a deal with the Sox and flip 92.9. Without one of the major Boston teams games, or some sort of an alliance with a major team, local sports here would be a hard sell.

To be fair to the GM who failed, let's not blame him for the Sox deal going back to Entercom.

Dont hold your breath. All your conclusions are invalid. Just because a part-timer opts not to pay for time on weekends and an underperformer ranks behind a Worcester station doesn't mean there's a format change coming.

I don't blame Greater Media at all. Entercom paid top dollar for the rights, and I bet it is a drain on the bottom line right about now.

In another post someone was mentioning the Red Sox just extended the contract and modified the terms of the payment schedule. I think that might have the people down in Braintree very happy they were not able to reach a deal with the Sox.

Greater Media IMHO is a pretty well run company. I don't agree with all of their programming decisions ( canning Julie Devereaux and then bringing her back with the horrid Tom Doyle, canning Kim Collins, etc.) but Peter Smyth and his management team are no dummies.

Here! Here! Couldn't agree more!

Anyone who tries live and local is noble in my book.

While she may not have had the best voice for radio....she knew her stuff and she is a hard worker (she is on Fox TV, WTKK, had a column in the Herald this week...and has a book coming out in a week or so), and everyone says she is a peach to work with.

She and Gr. Media deserve some kudos for attempting live and local with a show that talked about issues in our own backyard.....instead of some syndicated blowhard.

Live, local, can be interesting but her voice isn't the best; could only take in short doses. Mentioned before her shrieking MICHAEL GRAHAM IS IN THE HOUSE!!! during the Brown election night. My ears are still recovering. Perhaps RKO could have her fill in for Howie instead of Col Hunt (who will be on tomorrow
while Carr partakes of free liposuction in exchange for on air mentions)

Do they go syndie or stay local? Howie's former helper "Happy" was her board op/producer and Howie had said "Happy is in a better place now" (not heaven but 55 Morrissey Blvd)

It's about time. McPhee is awful on the radio. She has no complexity or nuance to her thinking. Instead of inviting people with opposing views on to discuss issues, she wouldn't hear of anyone disagreeing with her. I guess it would have forced her to dig a little deeper, something she doesn't seem capable of doing.

With that said, I'll bet she's very nice and fun in person. I just think she has no business being in the talk radio world.

BRING BACK GOOD VOICES FOR RADIO!! There seems to be a theme to most of the responses here about Michelle, which leads me to believe that a lot of people want a talk show host to have a reasonable good voice, if not a better than average voice. Somewhere, a long time ago, programmers started giving very good opportunities (i.e., major market gigs) to people who might know issues, but lack the voice to sustain a listener.
Music personalities, by the very nature of their much more limited amount of airtime, can get away with it. Some non-broadcast people do have listenable voices (Howie Carr, for example), but a lot don't, unfortunately.
I'm afraid Ms. McPhee, for all her writing talent, lacks a voice that makes her tolerable for more than a minute or two.
