Read in the Quincy Patriot Ledger that the voice of the old WJDA, Herb Fontaine (nee Fine) passed this week. The obituary did not give his age but he must have been in his 80's.
" No school, all schools today....."
He was an institution on the late lamented WJDA. 'JDA was the first stop for many famous broadcasters.
Sadly, James D. Asher, Jr., sold his father's station and also WESX, to the lowest bidder. James D. Asher, Sr. must be turning in his grave because his son sold him out. Think the station is some foreign language station now.
The old WJDA provided a great service to Quincy and the South Shore for generations. The building that used to house WJDA in Quincy is now abandoned and on property owned by Quirk Automobiles. VW I think.
