Enough with the lame threads about freeway banners that most people on this board could care less about. Instead it's time to discuss who takes the cake for "The Worst Jock" on the air. It can include full-timers, weekenders, sidekicks etc., however justify your opinions by stating what about them gets on your last nerve. Is it their delivery, is it the fact that they just perform the same ol' schtick and it's gotten old, or maybe it's the fact that all they do is front and back sell songs without adding a bit of entertainment, or maybe they just sound lost discussing topics and current events and all they really know anything about is the music they're playing.

Have fun!

THE WORST

Well, ALL negitivisms aside:
==================================
Does this apply ONLY for the Seattle market?..

If so, I can't put my eardrums down on any here...we're all TOO GOOD!

I DO however have ONE peice of criticism:

When you wanna start a thread ABOUT this kind of topic,
...put in the SUBJECT BOX: "Worst on Radio" (or something like that!)

..otherwise, I thought this was about the 'Laurel and Hardy' theme...

Ricker.

Although the infusion of 'talent' kisw took in so that said talent did not have to become homeless has created so much mediocrity that he does not stand out as much as in the past.

I have not been here long, so I will give it a shot:

1. Mornings is a toss up between the guy on WARM (sappy), Ichabod (listening to grandpa), Kent and Alan (listening to two old ladies) and Bob Rivers. (borrringgg) What is the attraction to these shows? Jackie and Bender belong in Spokane or Yakima. T-MAN does a great job, so FITZ on the WOLF, who really will own this market soon.

2. News/Talk: The KIRO afternoon show, Dorey Monson and the KOMO lineup outside of mornings. The KIRO guys are annoying, the KOMO team boring. The worst AM battle I have heard. Compared to SF radio, NO CONTEST. Al Franken is kinda okay on KPTK, but I don't listen to much AM.

3. Afternoons. The boring KIRO guys, that five o'clock funny guy on THE MOUNTAIN (there is a station that has taken a wrong turn in the last six months and ratings agree). Marcus D and Eric Powers do fine work and I kinda like the duo on STAR. Seems like Marcus might replace Jackie and Bender and the Kurt and Corrine show could replace Kent and Alan. Just a thought, not starting a rumor or nothin.

4. Nights. Who is that guy on KBKS and the night girl. I am guess they must be high school students, which is actually kinda cool. Gives young kids a break. Marcus will give them some help.

Again, just my observations having moved back here a few months ago. I am excited to see what lineup MOVIN will bring to town. May shake things up a bit. JACK, MOVIN and WOLF are the newest sound in town.

Ya know I agree with you on Rivers, the show just sounds old to me. Same with Kent and Alan, but the truth is is that unless the morning shows you mention retire, they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. They continue to be ratings winners on their respective stations. Never have listened to T-Man so I can't give an opinion but as far as Jackie and Bender, they definitely belong in a medium sized market and the longer Kiss keeps them, the more they will continue to slide.

As for the Mountain, I definitely like most of their jocks but definitely think Amanda Thorne is one of their best and deserves a better slot.

As for the worst, it has got to be a tie between Ricker and Rob Femur, a part-timer over at the End. Five minutes of either one on the air and I want to throw my stereo out the window. Harms is not far behind either and the sooner they put no name back on the air in his slot, the better off they'll be.

It is all a matter of taste. I do not find Bob Rivers funny, but I am not a 40-55 year old male. I do not find Kent and Alan hilarious, but I am not a 30-45 year old female. I do not laugh out loud to Ichabod, but I am not a Country fan. I crack up at the five oclock funny on the Mountain and enjoy KISW in the afternoon and Sportsradio or Mariners at night. Guess that makes me a 30-40 year old guy. Just because you find them boring, doesn't mean they aren't appealing to someone. The talent that seems appeals to no one:
THE POINT, was a bad station and staff all around. The END staff is way too juvenile along with KBKS in the last year they have gotten worse. KLSY five years ago had a strong lineup, since then it has been weak. The worst talent since I have been in this market: JACK from JACK-FM (annoying) and Brad and woman on MOVIN who do the liners. Bad bad bad. Give me some live, local jocks: PLEASE!

LOVE the 5:20 funny. Marty is great. Mike West too. Heidi on KJR annoys me to no end. I'm sure she's nice but her voice grates. Dorey on KIRO too. Who's the best traffic anchor in town? What's up with Sports radio? Those guys are so predictible!

What is up with Kirbywibber on KVI? I am by no means old but I can not understand half of what he says. all his words slurr together and many syllables are missing. he talks really fast and has no enunciation skills. You would think the morning guy in market 14 would have some basic radio skills.

Yo...takeitfromME....why don't you attach an air check to a new post, assuming you're still on the air or perhaps one when (or if) you (ever) were? Never can tell, you may have another jock or show to add to that list of yours.

Yeah, it takes a special kind of jock to figure out what to say before each of the spins in the twice-a-day rotation of "I Wanna Sex You Up."

Worst...
BJ Shea (perv and not funny)
JACK (enough already)
Dori Monson (nails on a chalkboard)

Best...
Eric Powers
Dave Ross
Kent and Alan
Fitz.

Working in radio in this town I have been fortunate enough to meet many of the best and the worst. Fun to see which guys hit on you too. I liked MOVIN at first, now it has to go.

Hey TakeItFromMe, just a thought: why don't you say something negative about FITZ just ONCE to maybe throw us off the scent... ;)

Does anyone listen to NY Vinnie? He can wear on me........

Other than that, I like most of the jocks I've heard in Seattle. I guess the couple I don't really like are Fitz and Ricker.

Worst:
Kent & Alan - Sorry guys, but radio has passed you by.
Robin & Maynard - Same story. Maybe I'm a tool for not appreciating their humor, but I think they're terrible. If I was a little older, I'd probably appreciate them more.
Dave Valle & Dave Henderson: These guys have no business doing M's broadcasts. Their insights could be so much better if they could actually talk without the marbles in their mouths. I'm sorry guys, but you're hard to listen to.
Best:
BJ Shea: Bj has picked up the ball since Stern left and does make me laugh quite a bit.
Dave Niehaus: Really the best voice in baseball along with Jerry Coleman, Vin Scully, and the Sunday night baseball team on ESPN.

Surprisingly good:
Ron and Don: I dug their morning show and think their afternoon show is surprisingly good and may only get better.

Worst (right now) : Bryan Styble, overnights on KIRO. Mentally ill, really. Not an act. Dead air would be better to listen to and get better numbers.

As stated in other posts, Seattle seems to have a lot of old and in my opinion washed up talent. Kent and Allan and Ichabod lead the list. Don't know what KMPS is thinking with competition now from the Wolf by keeping Grandpa Icky and Great Grandpa Riggs together. Then they add in a lame traffic girl who couldn't get a job in Spokane because Icky's coat tails aren't long enough for her to ride that far. Sad to see what they've become. On the news side of things, again old boring people. How does any station expect to grow their younger demos with unrelatable talent?

Seems there are a few posts that keeping coming back to the same point - K & A / Ichabod are old and washed up "

I was hoping that some could give exact examples of what it is these shows do and that make them sound so old and washed up . They have been in the industry and the market for many years and obviously have been doing something right to last this long right ??? Or is it that the "young" or new talent base that is out there to choose from is just that bad ???

By offering specific examples of what these guys do that constitutes being washed up and who then would you bring in. IS there any good air talent out there that can step up to the task ???

I have to second that. That guy really irritates me.

Well here's why. It's because the older one is, the more one knows, and therefore the more interesting that person is as a talent.

The very young entertainment talent in our country have set themselves apart through cheap sexual pandering (think Paris, boybands, MTV), lewd behavior, self righteous political bragging (all conservatives suck, liberals are the savior) and so on.

Hence why the young may be sought by Madison Avenue for their gullible spending habits with mom and dad's money, they lack the brain substance to make contribution with solid, mature, deep thought.
