Got word from a semi-source that the David Lee Roth radio experiment might be a bit short-lived... seems now that Eddie's split with Val, an old-skool Van Halen reunion became that much more likely.

Hmmmmm.....

As rumors go that is a good one but highly unlikely!. Dave has a contract which means he's not leaving it until they say so. Also I dont kn ow man there has been so much mud flung between DLR and the Halen Bros, I dont see it.

However, I have heard DLR described as a "big goofy rock and roller type." A contract is only as strong as the people who sign it, and I wouldn't be suprised if DLR just doesn't show up to work one day, regardless of the legal ramifications.

I saw him the other day in the building. They've gutted Howard's studio you would never ever even know that howard was once there. Anyway tons of cash going into the renovation of the studio for Dave, he walks in during the construction, sees some asbestos, freaks out on the architect or maybe it was just a crew guy and will now do his show from our little crap studio. AWSOME!!!!! Meanwhile construction continues in the big studio.

Im tempted to leave him a plate full of nothing but Brown M & M's just to see what happens!.

I suspect that Dave won't have to worry about getting out of his contract. Once he's on for a few months they'll be begging him to leave.

I still think this is one of the most insane programming decisions ever made. Does anyone really believe that he can successfully sustain a radio show for any period of time?

Why do you think they're going with 3-4 regional hosts?! Because DLR will
suffer one of his infamous meltdowns once he sees his first book numbers and won't be able to continue with the show. They still have Rover or Carolla to fall back on when, and not if, DLR goes 'Crazy from the Heat', which he will at some point. Dave will be begging for a VH reunion after ad agenicies start pulling spots.

WEll I continue to say what Ive said from the beginning: Everyone should wait until the show is on the air becuase who knows? this could turn out to be the biggest thing in years, someone heard something that the detractors have not heard, Then again most of the detractors are going on their gut and not any actual information. To the naked eye it seems like an odd programming decision but remember history is rarely made by those already doing a given thing, it's always the outsiders that make the big changes............... WHO KNOWS what this could be, conventional wisdom is not always correct.....USUALLY, but not always.

On the bright side he took Hutch with him from ZLX so at least he's working full time now, that guy had been part time in Boston for YEARS.

Good for Hutch! Have listened to him over the years around town and I hope this works out well for him.

Really?
You saw David at WBCN?
That's funny, because Howard's show originated from WXRK in New York.

NIK has been pulling part time shifts at WXRK..

UHHHHH No Ive been out of BCN since this time last year and have been working at wxrk, NEW YORK for the past six months. Clear?.

Re: Van Halen reunion VERY possible along WITH Lee Roth radio gig

Wrong again, as usual, Nik.

People in the know say Lee Roth's radio show AND a Van Halen reunion are both possible with Lee Roth doing his radio show from the road.

And if anyone needs a boost from his old legacy it is going to be Lee Roth.

I mean, would you want Howard Stern fronting Van Halen? Why would you want
Lee Roth replacing Stern? It is apples and oranges. It seems Lee Roth would
HAVE to have both his status as Van Halen frontman working side by side with the radio gig - and it certainly wouldn't hurt the currently anemic sales of old Van Halen catalog now would it.

A betting man would bet on both Lee Roth on CBS Radio AND a Van Halen reunion

Clear? Perseverance pays off

Congratulations Nik, you are working again full time?

That's great. More power to you. Many part-time jocks act
like they are "working" when - in reality - radio is their hobby
on the weekends and they have to deliver newspapers to stay alive.
Also, you had previously stated that you were afternoon drive at WBCN
for a longer period than was reality till someone on the board called you on it.
Just want to make sure there is accuracy and not exaggeration going on here.

But by letting us know you are now working full time again it speaks highly
of perserverance. Good show, and a sincere good luck in 2006.

You can't keep a good man down!

Actually Joe FCC I am NOT working full time currently...luckily I dont have to. Nor am I delivering papers or anything of the sort. Plus in order to equal what I was making working full time at WBCN (which was essentially a morning show salary) I would probably have to work full time at three other stations simultaneously. Which is also why I do voice overs and Image/voice other stations. One good VO gig can equal more than a full time radio salary if you are lucky enough to get such VO gigs.

PS sarcasm in the attempted guise of praise is soooooo 2004!.

Wrong again? as usual?..... Joe please stop taking what I say about you and merely substituting my name in the phrase........People in the know?..... Does Willie Loco Alexander or Bobby HEbb have an inside pipeline to the VH camp?. It never ceases to amaze me how someone so far on the outside having never held a job anywhere near the inside presumes to speak about things as an insider...........Why am I bothering? logic is wasted here.

People in the know?..............Silly little man.

Van Halen - 10,000,000+ sold
Van Halen II - 5,000,000+ sold
Women & Children First - 3,000,000+ sold
Fair Warning - 2,000,000+ sold
Diver Down - 4,000,000+ sold
1984 - 10,000,000+ sold
Best Of Vol 1 - 3,000,000+ sold
Best Of Both Worlds - 1,000,000+ sold

38 million sold Joe is HARDLY anemic sir. Roth also had 3 platinum solo albums. He really doesn't "need" this gig. But, we still don't know what we're going to hear. Could be sheer brilliance. Could be a train wreck.

..you can bet i'll be tuned in either way.

BTW...VH has "only" sold 22 million records with Mr. Hagar at the front.

So much for the "They sold more records with Sammy" debate.

..yep I'm a fan. And I knows my Van Halen!

Re: We have it on good authority

Feel like I'm in the movie Hitchcock never made,
"Revenge Of The Weekend Jocks" - good to see that
the part-timers have become the authority on the collective
once known as Infinity. the artist once known as Infinity

Hey, with ISDN lines they can be radio's new tag team
---the New York to Boston connection -

"Nik, what do you think of Johnny Damon joining the Yankees?"

"Well, Paul, he's kind of a has-been, and ya gotta love Steinbrenner's
hatred of long hair"

"Let's play "Hair" by The Cowsills in honor of Johnny"

"Neanderpaul, have you no respect for Barry Cowsill? He's still M.I.A."

"OK, let's play Hair in honor of Barry Cowsill"

This could save both jocks before they fade off into obscurity -
or end up being bitter and scribbling on message boards all day long
figuring out which nom de plume belongs to who.

Anyway, Neanderpaul, Fcc said anemic Van Halen sales as in currently.
You don't have to rattle sales figures off to me (Oh, how 2003 of you!)

Van Halen back catalog is about as essential as weekend jocks on Mike FM

They need to have Gary Cherone, Van Hagar and Lee Roth do a battle of bands
tour with the group Boston

Have you seen a therapist about this obsession with the name Joe?

The name's FCC - formal channel clean-up! of Boston radio

Obsession? wow do you love to flatter yourself. Therapy is a good thing i reccomend it whole heartedly for anyone in radio..... Yes and which one of your personalities would you send to see a therapist? it might be quite costly if you were to try to treat all of them.

That's great. More power to you. Many part-time jocks act

Yes much like some people who are lowly bloggers and try to pass themselves off as "respected rock journalists". It's hysterical becuase no one sees them as such, NO ONE. My girlfriend's ten year old sister has a blog, Im going to start referring to her as a respected rock journalist next time she writes about how hot the guys in the click five are!.

Give it a rest, your act is so tired and inconsequential.
