The Associated Press Radio Network will pull the feeding tubes out of their All News Radio format this Saturday, July 15th, at 12:00AM EDT.

Does anyone know what radio stations - terrestial or internet - plan to carry the signoff? (Here in Avon, Ohio, local affil WEOL/930 will be in the middle of Jim Bohannon at that time. Only at 4AM will they reveal what they replace AP ANR with...)

And, is their anyone that could be able to roll tape of the sign-off? I'd be very curious as to how the anchors handle it - especially at the 11:59:30 bridge, if it's used at all...

Good point....I am not sure if there exists another...."All News" service like AP.

I bet you could put something together using a few of em....

My guess is that those stations will start adding "shows" with national updates a couple times an hour....

But really, are there any "all news" stations that are really successful using just AP?

Most successful "all news" stations I know of are in big markets with local news

And two or more network affiliations. See WTOP-DC and WWJ-Detroit with both CBS and the AP.

Having cited WEOL-Elyria on my initial post, they really are a N/T station - what with Glenn Beck, Clark Howard, Mitch Albom and Jim Bohannon. But they are pretty much AP ANR in PMD and virtually the entire weekend.

When they flipped from an AOR format in late 1997, WEOL was initally all-news during the day, and One-on-One sports during the night. AP ANR content (save for the BOH newscast or sports updates) slowly withered away over the years in favor of the aformentioned hosts.

I have no clue what will replace AP in PMD and the weekends. (Music -unlikely- ? CNN HN's TV feed -shudder- ? SNR -best bet- ? FSR -double shudder- ?)

Whatever they do, it's pretty much a secret.

It will be a night of Mourning for AP staff and fans of the AP all news format...

***As for recording: Try:
http://www.triangleradionews.com/
...as one source for 24/7 internet AP all news radio with some interruptions.

***To record it off the net try Total Recorder:
http://www.highcriteria.com/onlineReg.htm?id=trpe

Others will post additional AP links.

Please divert the discussion any time you wish. You've got the best post of the week. Thanks for letting us know about when we can hear the end of an era in American radio news journalism.

Well, it IS FSR. As of Saturday. OA's blog, and allaccess.com, confirmed the move.

Yep. Those are fantastic sounders. Hopefully, some small-town, independant stations (WBWC-FM in Berea, Ohio comes to mind) will continue to use them for local content and whatnot...
